NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – Full Race – 2014 Bank of America 500 at Charlotte

>>YOU CAN’T JUST RUN THE CAR
HARD EARLY. YOU HAVE TO RUN EARLY.
AND 90, 95% IN MY OPINION. YOU ARE GOING TO ABUSE THE RIGHT
FRONT TIRE. WE HAD A LOT OF RAIN HERE.
AND TIME TO TELL THE DRIVERS, BE EASY ON THE TIRES.
DON’T GET TOO AGGRESSIVE. AND 90, 95%.
>>ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS, THE DRIVERS AND THE TEAMS HAVE
TO ADHERE TO THE AIR PRESSURE. YOU LOOK AT 54 PSI ON THE TIRES.
AND A LOT OF THE PEOPLES RUN THE TIRES DOWN AROUND 50.
AND THERE ARE SPOT CHECKING ON PIT ROAD.
YOU HAVE TO ADHERE TO THE MINIMUMS THAT GOODYEAR GIVES
YOU. BECAUSE THE TRACK IS GOING TO BE
GREECHB AND THEY WILL EAT THE TIRES UP.
>>AND STU GRANT COMES TO THE STUDIO AND SAYS, WE ARE
CONCERNED THE DRIVERS ARE GOING TO DRIVE TOO HARD EARLIER, IT’S
A BIG CONCERN.>>I LIKE THE WORD THAT BRAD
USED EARLIER, PRESSURE. THE WORD OF THE NIGHT.
AND THE FULL CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE GOING ON AS WELL.
>>HERE ARE THE CHAMPIONSHIPS STANDINGS.
AND HOW THEY LOOK ENTERING THE MIDDLE OF THREE RACES.
THE BIG TWIST, IT’S TALLADEGA NEXT SUNDAY.
IT’S THE WILD CARD RACE WHERE ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
THEY DON’T WANT TO LEAVE THEIR FATE TO NEXT SUNDAY.
THE BOTTOM FOUR, PRESENTLY OUT AT THE START OF TONIGHT’S RACE.
AND MATT KENSETH, JUST DROPPED TO THE TAIL END OF THE FLOOR,
POST INSPECTION. THE PHRASEOLOGY IN RACE CONTROL.
>>I SEE TAPE ON THE BACK BUMPER.
I’M NOT SURE. MAYBE THEY BUMPED AGAINST
SOMETHING. TRYING TO THINK OF WHAT
HAPPENED, WHY THEY HAVE TO TAPE IT UP.
IT’S NOT –>>HE IS SAYING IT’S WRONG.
>>WHAT IS HAPPENING?>>I TALKED TO HIM AND HE SAID,
THERE WAS PART OF A DECAL STUCK ON THE BUMPER.
HE SAID, THEY HAVE TO CUT IT OFF.
AND THEY SAID IT’S AN UNAPPROVED ADJUSTMENT.
AND THEY HAD TO DROP TO THE BACK.
>>MATT KENSETH IN THE LAST ROW OF THE GRID AS THE FIELD COMING
OFF TURN FOUR FOR THE START. AND PACE CAR IS ON PIT ROAD.
LEADING IT TO THE BANK OF AMERICA 500.
>>KYLE BUSCH LEADS LAP ONE. SUPER AGGRESSIVE ON THE START.
AND KEVIN HARVICK IN THE FOUR. McMURRAY, THREE WIDE.
AND BELOW NEWMAN IN TURN THREE.>>IMMEDIATELY, JAMIE McMURRAY
IN THE BACK OF THE RACETRACK.>>AND UP IN TURNS — OFF IN
TURN TWO.>>AND DALE JR. WITH A SLIDE UP
THE TRACK. AND IN THE 88.
YOU SEE THE CARS RUNNING THROUGH SMOKE IN TURN TWO.
AND THAT SOME OF THE PYROTECHNICS THEY TO USE.
AND IN A HAZE HERE OVER THE RACETRACK AND NOT DISSIPATING AS
QUICKLY AS THE DRIVERS MIGHT LIKE.
>>OVER 191 MILES AN HOUR.>>WAY MORE AGGRESSIVE SPEED.
AND KNOWING THEY HAVE 25 LAPS. THEY WANT IT TO BE HARD LAPS.
IT’S GOING TO CONTINUE TO CHANGE IF IT GETS RUBBERED UP AND THEY
GO THROUGH THE NIGHT.>>MAIZING AMOUNT OF GRIP ROUTE
NOW. THE COOL RACETRACK.
THE SECOND LAUGH, 192.5 MILES AN HOUR.
JUST VISIBLY FAST. YOU CAN WATCH THEM GO TO THE
CORNER, LOOK SO FAST.>>AND THERE IS McMURRAY IN THE
ONE CAR. AND STARTED IN THE 18th
POSITION. THREE WIDE.
HE IS ALREADY UP TO 12 AND KURT BUSCH, 41, PICKS UP SIXTH
POSITION ON RYAN NEWMAN, 31.>>KURT BUSCH SET A TRACK RECORD
IN THE SECOND ROUND OF QUALIFYING.
WASN’T ABLE TO BACK IT UP IN THE FINAL SESSION AND HE DOES HOLD
THE LAP AROUND HERE. AND FAST, AND HE HAS HADIST
TEAMMATE HERE IN THE TURN FOUR.>>COMPARED TO RECENT TRENDS,
AND HARVICK WON THE POLE ABOUT EVERY RACE, LATELY.
AND LED MOST OF THE LAPS. AND THIS TIME, HARVICK DID NOT
QUALIFY AND TRYING TO WORK HIS WAY TO THE FRONT.
AND AGAIN, THE 4 CAR, VERY, VERY FAST AND LOOK FOR HIM TO CONTEND
TO THE LEAD VERY SOON.>>AND WHAT WE SAW, TRYING TO
MAKE THE PASS ON HAMLIN. AND IN THE 11, THINGS WE WILL
SEE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. HIS CAR IS EXTREMELY FAST AND
GETTING ALL THE AIR ON THE CARS. AND WHEN YOU GET SIDE BY SIDE,
SOME OF SIT TAKE TOEN AWAY AND MORE DIFFICULT TO ATTACK THE
CORNERS.>>TONY STEWART, THE BEST WE
HAVE SEEN HIM OUT OF HIM LATELY. AND GOOD PRACTICE SESSIONS,
QUALIFIED GOOD. AND STARTED OFF REALLY STRONG.
>>A COUPLE GUYS TO KEEP AN EYE ON.
JIMMIE JOHNSON, TWO BRAD KESELOWSKI.
BOTH HAD TROUBLES IN KANSAS. BOTH NEED GREAT FINANCES.
IF NOT, A WIN TO HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO ADVANCE THROUGH THE
CONTENDER ROUND AFTER TALLADEGA LAST SUNDAY.
JIMMIE HAD TROUBLES IN THE FINAL PRACTICE YESTERDAY.
IN THE LATE LAPS, HE HIT THE WALL IN THE 48 CAR.
JIMMIE KEPT HIS STARTING SPOT AND HE IS KESELOWSKI HAVE TO
FIND A WAY THROUGH THE TRAFFIC AND TO THE FRONT OF THE PACK.
CLINT BOWYER, 15, WINNER OF THE RACE TWO YEARS GUY, 2012, HOPING
FOR GOOD THINGS TONIGHT.>>AND ABLE TO MAKE A NICE
ENOUGH RUN TO HOLD BOWYER BEHIND HIM.
AND JIMMIE WAS RUNNING YESTERDAY WHEN THAT HAPPENED.
UP AGAINST THE WALL. AND THE MIDDLE AND UPPER GROOVE.
AND UTILIZED MORE THROUGHOUT THE RACE.
>>HE TALK ABOUT WHY HE WAS DOING THAT.
AND HE SAID F I’M STARTING THIS FAR BACK IN TRAFFIC AND
EVERYBODY AHEAD OF ME IS IN THE BOTTOM, I HAVE TO GO SOME PLACE
ELSE TO PASS THEM AND MOVE FORWARD.
AND I NEED TO GET COMFORTABLE WITH IT.
>>AND HERE IS SOMEBODY THAT IS DOING IT WELL.
AND McMURRAY.>>AND JIMMIE JOHNSON, AND JOEY
LOGANO. RUNNING TENTH RIGHT NOW.
>>A FREE WILLING NIGHT FOR JOEY LOGANO AND HIS TEAM.
AND TRYING TO PICK UP ANOTHER SPOT FROM ALLGAIER.
>>AND GAVE UP A COUPLE SPOTS IN THE OPENING LAPS AND TRYING TO
GAIN IT BACK AND MOVE FORWARD. KYLE BUSCH LEADING, JEFF GORDON
CLOSING IN ON HIM A BIT.>>HOW SOLID IS THIS 24 CAR ALL
SEASON LONG? EVERY RACETRACK.
>>KYLE IS NOT GOING TO PRESS THE ISSUE RIGHT NOW, EARLY IN
THE RACE. A LOT OF THE TEAMS IN THE GARAGE
AREA AND TALK ABOUT THE 24, 29 AND THE 4, THE CARS I HERD A LOT
ABOUT THAT WERE BROUGHT UNMOST EVERYWHERE IN THE GARAGE.
>>WHEN I POKE TO THE 2 CREW, I THEY SAID, WE MADE ADJUSTMENTS.
STRAIGHT AWAY.>>HANGING DOWN REAL LOW.
AND THE START OF THE RACE. AND ONE OF THOSE DEALS, SEEMS
LIKE A GOOD DEAL ON PAPER.>>THE WEATHER CONDITIONS,
KEEPING IT DOWN LOW.>>WE MONITOR ALL OF THE DRIVERS
AND TEAMS’ RADIOS. NOT HEARING ANYONE COMPLAIN
ABOUT IT ON THE TRACK. AND NOR IS NASCAR.
WE STAY UNDER THE GREEN FLAG. DISCONCERTING.
AND US AND THE TELEVISION VIEWERS.
YOU EXPECT TO SEE THE SMOKE.>>YEAH, THE SHOT RIGHT THERE.
YOU SEE THE SMOKE AHEAD FROM ALMIROLA’S CAR.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM OUT THERE, I GUESS WE WOULDN’T KNOW IT.
>>THIS IS REALLY WHAT THE DRIVERS, THE TEAMS AND GOOD YEAR
WAS OPENING FOR THAT WE COULD GET THROUGH THE 25 LAPS.
ALL THE GREEN FLAGS TROUN GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THEY HAVE TO DEAL
WITH WITH THE TRACK HERE.>>I THINK 25 LAPS IS PLENTY
SAFE NUMBER. I DON’T THINK IF ANYTHING HAS
WEAR ISSUES IN THAT AMOUNT OF LAPS BUT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO
MONITOR HOW THE TIRES WORE IN THAT PERIOD.
TYPICALLY THEY WILL GET MORE RUBBER.
>>AND THEY TAKE THE SPOT AFWRA DENNY HAMLIN.
THEY WERE ENCOURAGED WITH WHAT THEY SAW LAST NIGHT.
THE WEAR GOT BETTER AS THE NIGHT WENT ON.
AND THEY WERE QUICK TO POINT OUT, THEY DIDN’T GET A REALLY,
REALLY LONG RUN THAT CREATED THE ISSUES IN THE FIRST PART OF THE
RACE.>>KEVIN HARVICK UP TO FOURTH.
HAMLIN BACK TO FIFTH. AND HARVICK, 3.4 SECONDS BEHIND
JEFF GORDON, THE RACE LEADER.>>DANICA PATRICK 10, ARIC
ALMIROLA, 43. THAT IS THE 14th AND 15th SPOT.
KYLE LARSON, BEHIND THEM IN THE 42.
ONE TO KEEP AN EYE ON. AND SHOWING PENSION AND RALLYING
TO THE FRONT TO BE A FACTOR IN THE FINISH.
>>SEEMS LIKE HE DOESN’T CHARGE THE FRONT EARLY IN THE RACE AND
SOMETIMES HE STRUGGLES A BIT. AND THE FIRST OR SECOND RUN AND
THEY NEED TO MAKE GOOD ADJUSTMENTS.
>>AND PART OF THAT IS THE TEAM GETTING USED TO EACH OTHER.
AND THAT IS HIM MATURING. AND UNDERSTANDING THESE ARE LONG
RACES. I CAN TAKE MY TIME.
THEY HAVE TO MAKE PIT STOPS AND ADJUSTMENTS AND HE IS JUST
BECOMING AN EXCELLENT DRIVER AND READY TO WIN ONE OF THE RACES.
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON’S CAR NOT HANDLING TO HIS LIKING OBVIOUSLY
IN THE OPENING LAPS AFTER BRAD KESELOWSKI WENT BY HIM AND HERE
IS AUSTIN DILLON IN THE 3 GOING BY THE 48.
AND JOEY LOGANO, 22, AND PASSING VICKERS, FOR 12th PLACE.
AND IS THAT THE OTHER WAY SNARND LET’S CHECK HERE.
VICKERS PASSING LOGANO, MY APOLOGIES.
>>I THINK WHAT WE ARE SEEING THERE LOGANO, THE OPPORTUNITY TO
TAKE IT EASY HERE IN THE FIRST PART OF THIS RACE.
NOT PUSHING ISSUES, NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE WE HAVE THE
COMPETITION YELLOW. AND WORK ON THE CAR.
HE KNOWS IT’S A LONG 500 MILE RACE.
.>>I WILL BE SHOCKED IF HE IS
NOT RIGHT IN THE THICK OF THINGS AGAIN.
>>AND HE HAS ALL RIGHT LaJOIE, AND A LAP DOWN.
AND YOU JUST SAW IT PASS IS SLOW.
AND BRAD MOFFITT, WAS THE CAR ON THE TAIL END OF THE FIELD WHO
SCUFFED THE WALL A LITTLE BIT. AND TWO TRIPS DOWN PIT ROAD TO
TRY TO FIX WHAT AILS THE CAR.>>AND HERE IS KURT BUSCH.
KURT STARTED BACK IN 11th SPOT. SO A NICE PROGRESS IN THE
OPENING RUN HERE FOR KURT.>>AND SPEAKING OF PROGRESS, AND
MATT KENSETH, UP TO THE 26th AFTER STARTING IN THE ARENA.
HEARD THERE WAS PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT OF FIRE UNDER HIM,
PROBABLY NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT WHAT HE WAS TOLD ABOUT THAT
SITUATION.>>YOU MENTIONED EARLIER, KURT
BUSCH WITH A LAP OF 198 MILES AN HOUR IN THE ROUND OF QUALIFYING
HERE. AND DIDN’T GET POLE POSITION.
THE FASTEST EVER LAP, IN AND MILE AND A HALF TRACK IN THE
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES. SO IF YOU JOINED US HERE ON
ESPN3 TO START THE RACE, THE RACE WILL BE GOING TO ABC
TELEVISION IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS.
SO IF YOU WILL TRANSITION WITH US THERE, THE COVERAGE WILL
RESUME THERE AT ABOUT THE TIME THE COMPETITION CAUTION WILL
COME OUT. WE WILL CATCH THE FIRST ROUND OF
PIT STOPS AND ON ABC. NEXT, JEFF GORDON IS THE RACE
LEADER. LIVE AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR
SPEEDWAY, AFTER THAT EPIC FOOTBALL GAME WITH 119 POINTS
SCORED AND THE SECOND FIELD GOAL FINALLY WINNING IT, THE BANK OF
AMERICA 500 HAS REACHED A PLANNED CAUTION FLAG.
ALLEN BESTWICK, DALE JARRETT AND ANDY PETREE.
THE OPENING OF THE RACE, CAUTION TO THIS POINT.
KYLE BUSCH LED THE OPENING 13 LAPS.
AND JEFF GORDON, LEADING TO A PLANNED CAUTION.
BY NAS CONSIDER. A COMPETITION CAUTION AFTER AN
AFTERNOON RAIN. A COUPLE THINGS THAT HAPPEN SOD
FAR.>>MATT KENSETH HAD TO START
FROM THE REAR BECAUSE OF AN APPROVED ADJUSTMENT TO THE CAR,
WHICH IS BASICALLY A DECAL, AND YOU CAN SEE, THE CREW CHIEF IS
NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT SITUATION. HE WENT TO THE BACK AND MOVED
FORWARD PRETTY QUICKLY.>>MOVED UP A LOT OF SPOTS AND
KYLE BUSCH IN THE LIME GREEN CAR.
LED THE OPENING 13 LAPS OF THE RACE AND GORDON ROCKETED AROUND
HIM AND TOOK THE TOP SPOT.>>AND UTILIZED THE MIDDLE
GROOVE OF THE RACETRACK. AND NOT A FIGHT AT THIS POINT IN
TIME FOR THE TO THE SPOT. THAT WILL CHANGE LATER.
>>AND HEAVY, HEAVILY DOWNPOUR HERE.
AND THUS THE REASON FOR THE COMPETITION CAUTION BY NASCAR.
PIT ROAD OPEN FOR THE LEAD LAP CARS HERE.
DOWN STAIRS TO DAVE BURNS.>>TONY STEWART LIKES HIS CAR IN
TURNS ONE AND TWO WHEN IT LANDS AND COMPRESSIONS.
TOO TIGHT. THEY WILL MAKE ADJUSTMENTS.
>>JEFF GORDON, GOOD EARLY IN THE RUN AND LOSING THE FRONT ON
ENTRY LATER IN THE RUN. FOUR TIRES AND A HALF ROUND DOWN
IN THE RIGHT REAR.>>KURT BUSCH SAID THE CAR BEGAN
TO CHANNEL THE REAR. SAID I AM FREE ON EXIT.
CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT AND HE IS AWAY.
>>GOING TO BE TEAMS PLAYING A LITTLE STRATEGY HERE FOR TRACK
POSITION. DALE EARNHARDT JR.’S TEAM AND
DANICA PATRICK’S TEAM, GOING WITH RIGHT SIDE TIRES TO MOVE UP
TO FIRST AND THIRD. SO DALE EARNHARDT JR. BECOMES
THE THIRD LEADER OF THE BANK OF AMERICA 500 HERE AT CHARLOTTE
MOTOR SPEEDWAY. AND AS WE DIVE INTO OUR COVERAGE
OF TONIGHT’S RACE, YOU LOOK AT SOME OF THE HIGH-DEFINITION ON
BOARD CAMERAS WE HAVE FOR YOU. TONY STEWART HAS THE MOBILE ONE
ON BOARD TONIGHT. CLINT BOWYER HAS THE 5-HOUR
ENERGY CAMERA. JOEY LOGANO HAS THE PENNZOIL ON
BOARD. AND KURT BUSCH WITH THE STATE
WATER HEATERS ON BOARD CAMERA. KYLE LARSON HAS THE ENERGIZER ON
BOARD. ARIC ALMIROLA WITH THE
SMITHFIELD HAM CAM. JIMMIE JOHNSON, THE SIX-TIME
CHAMP, WITH THE SUNOCO ON BOARD. AND THE LEADER, DALE EARNHARDT
JR., HAS THE NATIONWIDE INSURANCE ON BOARD CAMERA.
AND ON TO THE CAUTION FLAG, WE CHECK IN IN THE ESPN STUDIO.
HERE IS NICOLE BRISCOE.>>THIS IS RACE FIVE OF THE
CHASE. THIS IS RACE TWO IN ROUND TWO OF
THE CHAMPIONSHIP. SO AFTER WHAT WE SAW IN KANSAS
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DRIVERS WE ARE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON
TONIGHT. JIMMIE JOHNSON, BRAD KESELOWSKI,
DALE EARNHARDT JR. KANSAS DID NOT GO WELL FOR THEM.
>>YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT TWO OF THEM.
>>I AM. AND BRAD KESELOWSKI IS THE
FAVORITE. HE WON THE NATIONWIDE LAST
NIGHT. HE IS LOOKING GOOD.
I’M CONCERNED FOR JIMMIE JOHNSON AND DALE EARNHARDT JR.
TWO OF THE DRIVERS ARE IN TROUBLE.
>>CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
THEY DRIVE FOR TWO OF THE BIGGEST TEAMS —
>>ONE OF THEM IS GOING TO MAKE IT STLANCHTS THEIR RESOURCES
TOGETHER. I THINK THEY WILL FINISH IN THE
TOP FIVE AND THE WORLD WILL BE PERFECT.
>>IT’S NOT OFTEN I AGREE WITH HIM HERE.
BUT I HAVE TO SAY, KESELOWSKI HAS WON RACES.
AND LED LAPS. AND JIMMIE JOHNSON AND DALE
EARNHARDT JR. HASN’T DONE THAT.>>THANKS A LOT.
THAT IS THE REASON FOR MY CONCERN.
THE 48 HAS BEEN IN TROUBLE ALL YEARLONG.
AND OF LATE, DALE EARNHARDT JR. HAS BEEN INCONSISTENT.
WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS TONIGHT.
>>ALL THE THINGS WE ARE WATCHING TONIGHT, ALLEN.
>>AND A LOT OF THEM. ONE SPECIAL MOMENT THAT HAPPENED
BEFORE THE START OF TONIGHT’S RACE.
WE WANT TO SHOW YOU, IT WAS REALLY TERRIFIC.
THOUSANDS OF FANS ROSE TO THEIR FEET HERE IN CHARLOTTE AND GAVE
SERVICE MEMBERS AND VETERANS HERE AT THE TRACK A HEARTFELT
SALUTE. DANK OF AMERICA AND DONATING 1
DOLLAR FOR EACH OF THE PEOPLE SALUTING THEM TONIGHT.
IT WAS REALLY TERRIFIC TO SEE. AND TOPSIDE, ALLEN BESTWICK WITH
CHAMPION DRIVER AND HALL OF FAMER DALE JARRETT AND CHAMPION
CREW CHEE ANDY PETREE. AND IT’S A CRUCIAL RACE TONIGHT.
>>IT’S ABOUT WINNING. DOING WHATEVER YOU CAN TO MAKE
IT HAPPEN. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO GET IT DONE
TONIGHT. AND SOME OF THE DRIVERS WILL NOT
BE ABLE TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH POINTS.
WINNING MIGHT BE THE ONLY WAY TO ADVANCE.
>>AND HOW YOU GO ABOUT WINNING.>>AND KASEY KAHNE IS ONE OF THE
TEAMS, HE AND KENNY FRANCIS HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE ABLE TO ADJUST
THE CAR TO BE RIGHT WHEN IT’S TIME TO BE.
THEY HAD AN EARLY CAUTION AND A COMPETITION CAUTION TO MAKE THE
FIRST ADJUSTMENTS. IT’S GOING TO BE CRUCIAL TO KEEP
UP. IT’S ONE OF THE TOUGHEST ONES.
IT CHANGES A LOT.>>CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS,
ENTERING THE MIDDLE OF THREE RACES IN THE CONTENDER ROUND FOR
THE CHASE FOR THE SPRINT CUP. AND JOEY LOGANO IS THROUGH TO
THE THIRD ROUND. HE GETS THE BYE.
AND EVERYBODY BELOW THE EIGHTH PLACE LINE IS GOING TO BE
DROPPED. A LOT OF RACING TO GO TONIGHT
AND THE ENTIRE 500 MILES IN TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.
THAT IS CERTAINLY ON THE MINDS OF ALL AS WE GET THE RACE GOING
AND GET THE RESTART. WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR., THE
RACE LEADER, CHOOSING THE OUTSIDE LANE.
KYLE BUSCH THROUGH JUNIOR FOR THE RACE LEAD.
JEFF GORDON, KEVIN HARVICK, 24 AND 4, LINED UP TO THE BOTTOM.
THE 88 CAR. THE 88 TOOK JUST TWO FRESH TIRES
ON THE PIT STOP. HE CAME OUT WITH THE LEAD AND
NOW HE IS RACING FOR THIRD.>>A PRETTY GUTSY CALL AFTER
HAVING A TIRE PROBLEM LAST WEEK. WE HAVEN’T SEEN THE LEFT SIDE BE
THE ISSUE. AND ON A VERY GREEN RACETRACK TO
TAKE THE TWO TIRES.>>AND — IT’S NOT A BIG
CONCERN. ONLY 25 LAPS ON THEM.
THEY DID CHANGE THE RIGHTS AND TRACK POSITION IS SO IMPORTANT.
TIME TO GET A LITTLE CLEANER AIR.
I THINK IT’S A BIG DEAL.>>JIMMIE JOHNSON, 48, JAMIE
McMURRAY, 1 AND 15th AND 16th PLACE.
AND CARL EDWARDS, LOOKING TO GAIN GROUND ALSO, USING THE
OUTSIDE LANE. NEWMAN, 31, LARTON, 42.
FIRST SIDE BY SIDE IN A ROW. AND THAT WAS SINGLE FILE.
THAT IS 12th PLACE. AND LARSON PICKING UP THE SPOT.
HERE IS THIRD PLACE.>>HARVICK GET ON THE BUMPER
THERE AND REALLY FREE JUNIOR UP. HE IS TRYING TO MAKE THIS PASS.
>>SO DALE JR. FALLS BACK TO FOURTH PLACE, TRYING TO DEFEND
THAT SPOT NOW FROM THE CHALLENGE OF KURT BUSCH IN THE 42.
.>>WE DO HAVE A TIRE PROBLEM, I
WANT TO BE ABLE TO KNOW IT.>>THE VIBRATION IS NO BETTER
FROM YESTERDAY?>>NO, TERRIBLE.
ALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE. SOME WHERE IN THE HUB OR
SOMETHING.>>DALE EARNHARDT JR. TALKING
ABOUT A CONSTANT APPARENT VIBRATION IN THE 88 CAR.
>>I THINK HIS CONCERN WAS, IF WE HAVE A TIRE PROBLEM, THAT IS
DEVELOPING, HE WON’T FEEL IT REAL QUICKLY BECAUSE HE ALREADY
HAS A VIBRATION. SO IT WON’T BE LIKE HE CAN
DETECT A CHANGE IT IN. THAT IS CONCERNING.
>>WELL, IT MAKES A LONG, TOUGH NIGHT THERE FOR SURE.
>>REAL TIGHT ENTERING THE BACKSIDE OF THE TRACK OFF THE
CORNER.>>PROBABLY SOUNDS LIKE HE HAS
THERE, TIGHT ENTERING THE CORNER, SAYS IT’S BANGING OFF
THE TRACE TRACK. THAT IS PROBABLY THE FRONT
SPLITTER HITTING.>>AND KYLE BUSCH LEADS FOR A
WHILE. HERE IS JEFF GORDON.
>>TOOK SHORTER TIME FOR GORDON TO GET THERE.
I THINK HE WAS CAUTIOUS IN THE BEGINNING OF THE RACE.
HOW MUCH GRIP DID HE HAVE AND HOW FAST CAN HE GO?
>>HIS CAR LOOKED REALLY GOOD. AND LIKE I WAS SAYING EARLIER,
THIS IS A DIFFERENT RACETRACK. THEY HAVE TO ADJUST TO KEEP UP
WITH IT. AND IF I HAD A GOOD CAR IN THE
BEGINNING OF THE RACE, IT MADE ME NERVOUS.
YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE GOOD.>>GORDON STARTED THE RACE ON
THE CUT LINE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS.
LAST DRIVER IN, ONLY EIGHT POSITIONS ON THE RACETRACK,
EIGHT POINTS AHEAD OF THE FIRST DRIVER OUT, KASEY KAHNE.
SO A BIG, IMPORTANT NIGHT FOR JEFF GORDON IN CHARLOTTE
TONIGHT. JUST UNDER WAY.
JUST OVER 50 MILES COMPLETE. BACK AFTER THIS WORD FROM YOUR
ABC STATION.>>RACE FIVE, THE BANK OF
AMERICA 500 AND WE ARE JUST UNDER WAY, ACROSS 50 MILES IN
THIS ONE. WITH JEFF GORDON IN FRONT.
IT’S GORDON, HARVICK, KURT BUSCH, KYLE BUSCH AND DALE
EARNHARDT JR., THE TOP FIVE. AND A REMINDER, IF YOU ARE
LOOKING FOR A SPANISH LANGUAGE COMMENTARY TONIGHT, ACTIVATE
YOUR S.A.P. BUTTON AND IT’S PRESENTED BY ESPN DEPORTES.
AND IN THE LAST BREAK, KEVIN HARVICK ROSE TO SECOND PLACE,
PASSING BY KYLE BUSCH. THE GAP, FIRST TO SECOND AND AN
UPDATE ON THE RUNNER UP DRIVER, FROM JAMIE.
>>YOU GUYS WERE TALKING ABOUT TIRES LAST WEEK IN KANSAS.
KEVIN HARVICK WAS A DRIVER WHO THOUGHT HE HAD A TIRE ISSUE.
IT TURNED OUT HE DIDN’T EVEN THOUGH HE PITTED FROM FIFTH.
HIS CREW CHIEF TOLD ME, I HAVE TO DO A BETTER JOB THROUGHOUT
THE RACE UPDATING KEVIN ON THE TIRE CARRY.
AND THE FIRST STAFF, A LITTLE IT OF WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF THE
RIGHT FRONT. BUT HE TOLD HIS DRIVER, THE
TIRES ARE GOOD AND THAT GIVES THE DRIVER CONFIDENCE TO MOVE TO
THE FRONT.>>THE ONE THING THAT IS
DIFFERENT THIS WEEK FROM LAST WEEK, WEAR SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE
TONIGHT. AND LAST WEEK, IT WASN’T.
MORE ABOUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE FIRE AND TROBS THEY HAD THERE.
AND CARRY IS WHAT THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT HERE.
>>ABSOLUTELY FLYING SINCE THE RESTART.
AND KYLE LARSON. AND THIS CAR IS REALLY TRUCKING
THROUGH MIDDLE OF THE CORNER.>>AND SECOND BEST AVERAGE
FINISH IN THE CHASE. HE IS OUTSTANDING THE FOUR CHASE
RACES SO FAR.>>HE HAS PICKED UP TEN
POSITIONS SINCE THE RESTART. THAT IS INCREDIBLE.
>>THAT SEEMS LIKE THIS CAR, EVERY TIME WE GET AN EYE BALL ON
HIM, HE IS GOING FORWARD. HE IS PASSING CARS.
I BET HE PASSES MORE CARS THAN ANYTHING.
>>AND KESELOWSKI, HAS PICKED UP POSITIONS FROM WHERE HE STARTED,
17th.>>AND THE HARVICK DEAL, I
TALKED TO KEVIN THIS WEEK. AND NO, HE DID NOT HAVE A FLAT
TIRE. HE THOUGHT IT WAS.
BUT THE TIRE WAS NOT GOING TO LAST LONGER.
HE WAS GOING TO HAVE AN ISSUE. HE DID THE RIGHT THING.
AND I COULD DO THE SAME THING TOMORROW.
>>YOU SAW A COUPLE CARS THAT HAD A PROBLEM, AND THEY WERE
HITTING THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AREA, FIXING IT.
HE SAW THAT AND HE DID NOT WANT TO PUT HIS TEAM IN A POSITION.
HE MADE A DECISION THAT HE IS STANDING BY AND IT’S A GOOD ONE.
>>CAME BACK TO FINISH 12th IN THE RACE, VERSUS 38th OR 39th.
AND HARVICK STARTING THIS NIGHT WAS SIXTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
STANDINGS. BEHIND JOEY LOGANO.
JIMMIE JOHNSON. 48,GYMY McMURRAY, 1, SIDE BY
SIDE. FOR THE 15th AND 16th POSITIONS.
WITH JOEY LOGANO, 22, JUST AHEAD OF THEM.
AND LOGANO, LOSING SPOTS SINCE THE RESTART.
>>THIS DOESN’T SEEM LIKE THEY HAD A CAR WHERE JOEY WANTS IT,
THE FEEL OF IT. I DON’T THINK THIS IS A
SITUATION WHERE HE IS TAKING IT EASY.
HE IS NOT GOING BECAUSE HE DOESN’T FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE CAR.
>>BETTER BE AGAINST THE WALL TO HAVE ANY KIND OF SPEED.
AND I’M REALLY TIGHT.>>IN THAT SITUATION, MAKES IT
REALLY DIFFICULT TO HAVE SPEED WHEN YOU ARE TIGHT HERE.
AND YOU TRY TO FIND SOME WHERE TO RUN.
ON THE BOTTOM, YOU HAVE TO PUT TOO MUCH WHEEL ON IT AND TRY TO
MOVE UP AROUND THE TOP OF THE RACETRACK AND CARRY SPEED.
YOU HAVE TO GIVE EVERYONE ENOUGH ROOM NOT TO HIT THE WALL IN THE
CENTER OR THE CORNER. THEY HAVE ISSUES THERE, DOC.
>>THEY DO, DJ, AND TODD GORDON TOLD ME, AND I TALKED TO THEM.
THE LAST TWO TIMES THEY HAVE BEEN HERE, THE CAR IS WAY TOO
FREE TO DRIVE. AND FIGURE IT WOULD FREE UP AS
THE NIGHT WHEN ON. AND THEY HAVE GONE TOO FAR.
AND YOU HEARD THEM SAY, TOO TIGHT ON THE BOTTOM.
AND RIGHT NOW, HE’S GOT WHAT HE GOT.
>>AND I THINK HE IS TOO TIGHT. BUT THE TRACK WILL FREE UP FROM
EVERYBODY I TALKED TO. AND GORDON TRYING TO STAY AHEAD
OF THAT. AND PAYING A PRICE FOR IT IN THE
EARLY STAGES OF THE RACE.>>AND HAVE SEEN IT WORK OUT
HERE IN CHARLOTTE. AND CONDITIONS CHANGE SO MUCH IN
THE RACETRACK. AND THE MAY RACE, 600 MILES.
JOEY LOGANO, THE CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER, IN 16th PLACE FLOW,
ALREADY WITH A PASS THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND WITH A WIN LAST
WEEK.>>>A BEAUTIFUL SKYLINE OF
UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, TALLEST BUILDING
THERE, THE BANK OF AMERICA HEADQUARTERS AS WE COME BACK TO
CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY. AND THE NORTH AND EAST PART OF
TOWN. THE BANK OF AMERICA 500 IS UNDER
GREEN AND APPROACHING THE 100-MILE MARK.
AND NEXT SUNDAY, THE CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE, IN THE
CHASE, THE GEICO 500 AND ELIMINATION RACE, ANYTHING CAN
HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, THE WORLD’S FASTEST SPEEDWAY.
ESPN, 1:00 EASTERN TIME, ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW.
THERE’S THE GAP, FIRST AND SECOND.
JEFF GORDON TO KEVIN HARVICK. .8 SECONDS.
AND DALE EARNHARDT JR., FIFTH. AT THIS POINT, YOU SAY THE NET
TRACK POSITION GAIN FOR JUNIOR AND TEAM, THE RIGHT SIDE TIRE
CALLED WORKED OUT OKAY.>>SO FAR, IT WORKED OUT OKAY
FOR THE 88 TEAM. AND DANICA PATRICK, HE WAS
RUNNING 14th AND SHE IS NOW 19th.
>>AND HARVICK IN THE FOUR, HAD TWO CAR LENGTHS ON THE BUMPER
AND GORDON HAS BEEN ABLE TO PULL AWAY A BIT.
AND THIS IS A LONGER RUN. SEE IF HARVICK HAS BEEN ABLE TO
BACK OFF, TAKE IT EASY.>>THIS IS A LONGER GREEN FLAG
RUN. IT’S LONGER THAN IT WAS FOR THE
COMPETITION YELLOW. IF THEY HAVE TO RUN A FULL GAS
STOP, I DON’T THINK HARVICK WILL BE THE FIRST ONE TO TEST THE
TIRE.>>AND STRUGGLED ON THE FIRST
ONE, ON THE MOVIE. HE IS UP TO 17th.
>>AND THEY MADE ADJUSTMENTS FOR IT AND KASEY SAID IT’S A LITTLE
FREE OFF THE CORNERS BUT AT LEAST THE CORNER IS NOW
CONNECTED. HE LIKES IT BETTER.
AND CREW CHIEF KENNY FRANCIS SAID, WE’RE NOT SURE THE WAY TO
GO. AND KSEY HAD HIS OWN IDEAS.
>>WELL, GHI WITH THOSE. BECAUSE HE IS SO GOOD HERE.
>>HERE AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY AND A FACTOR IN JUST
ABOUT EVERY ONE OF THE RECENT RACES HERE, IN THE TRACK, DRIVER
OF THE 5 CAR. ANOTHER STORY WE HAVE BEEN
FOLLOWING IN THE RACE, MATT KENSETH’S CAR SENT FROM THE BACK
OF THE LINE FROM THE STARTING SPOT FOR THOSE REPAIRS THAT
NASCAR OFFICIALS WISH THEM TO MAKE AND NOW HE WORKED HIS WAY
BACK UP HALFWAY THROUGH THE FIELD, JAMIE.
>>WELL, IT WAS CERTAINLY A FIRED UP TEAM TO LEARN BEFORE
THE START OF THE RACE THEY HAD TO DROP TO THE BACK FOR
UNAPPROVED ADJUSTMENTS. AND HE STARTED OFF OKAY.
HE SAY THAT HE IS LACKING THE FRONT GRIP.
THEY NEED TO GO A DIFFERENT WAY. HE WANTS MORE HELP.
HE IS SAYING THE CAR FEELS STIFF ON THE FRONT END AND REALLY
CAN’T GO ANY WHERE, ALLEN.>>KENSETH UP TO 24th.
AGAIN, HE QUALIFIED IN 22nd POSITION BUT HAD TO START 42nd
AT THE GREEN FLAG AND GAINED ABOUT EVERYTHING HE LOST BACK.
ABOUT.>>HE’S HAD TO WORK HARD TO DO
THAT. THAT IS THE DIFFICULT THING.
IT’S HOW HARD HE’S HAD TO WORK TO GET BACK TO THIS SPOT.
>>BECAUSE KASEY KAHNE IS RUNNING 17th IN THE RACE AND
JEFF GORDON IS LEADING — THE TWO DRIVERS ON THE 8th PLACE CUT
LINE, LOOK HAVE THE POINTS HAVE ACCORDIONED NOW.
GORND WOULD BE UP THIRD. IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
A LOT OF RACING TO GO, I KNOW. BUT JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA,
LOOK HOW CLOSE IT IS NOW FOR TWO OF THE DRIVERS WHO HAD TROUBLES
LAST WEEK.>>AND IT CHANGES ALMOST EVERY
RUN THEY MAKE HERE. AND EVERY CAR THEY PASS CHANGES
THE POSITION AND HAS A POSSIBILITY TO DO THAT.
AND YOU SEE THE 22 CAR.>>AND LOGANO IS SLOWING DOWN
AND COMING IN. FROM 23rd PLACE FOR A GREEN FLAG
PIT STOP. 38 LAPS AFTER — 39 LAPS AFTER
HE PITTED LAST.>>WE HEARD HE WAS TIGHT AND
WORRIED ABOUT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE.
HERE HE COMES TO YOU, DOC.>>HE COULD NOT TAKE A CHANCE.
HE IS IN AS FAR AS THE ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS.
COULDN’T TAKE A CHANCE EXACTLY AND THEY TALKED ABOUT, VERY
TIGHT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RACETRACK AND LEANING ON RIGHT
FRONT TIRE. YOU SAW THE ADJUSTMENT THERE ON
THE REAR. FOUR TIRES, AIR PRESSURE AND
FUEL OF FUEL. HE IS AWAY, 12.6 SECONDS.
>>AND DOC, YOU AND I BOTH TALKED TO THE CREW CHIEF AND THE
ONE THING HE SAID HE COULD NOT DO, IS TAKE A CHANCE ON THE
DRIVER GETTING HURT. THEY HAVE TO PLAY THE CALLS
CONSERVATIVELY LEADING THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND HAVING A PASS
THROUGH INTO THE THIRD ROUND.>>THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE WITH
THE LUXURY IN THE SITUATION AND THEY HAVE TO DO WHATEVER THEY
CAN. THEY EARNED THE RIGHT LAST WEEK.
AND THAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT THE FORMAT.
ALLOWS TO YOU DO THAT.>>I WAS JUST THINKING, IF IT
GOES A FULL FUEL RUN, ONE CAR THAT I WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT
WOULD BE THE 22. AND THAT WAS THE CONCERN LAST
NIGHT. THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE.
>>AND TENTH PLACE AT STACK HERE.
AND RYAN NEWMAN TRYING TO PASS DENNY HAMLIN.
BOTH OF THESE DRIVERS HAVE NOT BEEN KNOCKING AROUND THE FRONT
OF THE PACK. STEADY AND CONSISTENT WITH THE
SPEED AND RESULTS TO POSITION THEMSELVES TO POSSIBLY ADVANCE
OUT OF TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.>>THEY FEEL THROUGH THIS ROUND,
THEY CAN STILL DO THAT. THE OPPORTUNITY IS THERE.
WHEN IT GOES FROM 12 TO 8 TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH POINTS TO GET
THROUGH THE NEXT ROUND. CERTAINLY, THEY WOULD LIKE TO
WIN.>>WE MENTIONED DANICA PATRICK.
>>SHE IS DOING ALL SHE CAN. SHE CAN’T GET AROUND THE CORNER
AND THEY ARE MAKING CHASSIS ADJUSTMENTS.
FOUR TIRES TO HELP THAT CAR, DAVE?
>>ARIC ALMIROLA IS IN FOR A PIT STOP.
HE WILL GET THE FOUR FIRES AND FUEL AND BE GONE.
>>THE FLOOD GATES WILL BE OPEN FOR THE PIT STOPS AND TOP TWO,
JEFF GORDON AND KEVIN HARVICK DOWN THE PIT LANE HERE.
THEY COMPLETE THE 75th LAP OF THE RACE ON PIT ROAD.
>>THE FIRST PIT BOX, IT’S DAMP. AND THE TEAM WARNING KEVIN,
DON’T GO THROUGH THE BOX. HE SAID IT’S TURNING WELL.
HE JUST NEEDS A BIT OF REAR GRIP, LATE EXIT.
FOUR TIRES AND FUEL, VINCE?>>JEFF GORDON, TIGHT IN, LOOSE
IN THE MIDDLE AND TIGHT OFF. CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT, FOUR TIRE
CHANGE AND SUNOCO FUEL. DAVE?
>>KASEY KAHNE, DROVE HIS CAR UP NEAR THE 15.
A TRACK BAR ADJUSTMENT, THIS TIME.
AND THE BACK END IS STILL FREE. AND FOUR TIRES OF FUEL AND SEND
KASEY ON HIS WAY.>>KURT BUSCH TOOK THE LEAD.
AND HE SON PIT ROAD. AND KYLE FOLLOWS HIM.
YOU SEE A LOT OF BUSINESS DOWN THERE FOR THE PIT CREWS AND THE
PIT REPORTERS. DAVE?
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON — RESTARTED THERE.
15th. HE REALLY DIDN’T TAKE PROGRESS
BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LOOSE IN THE CORNER.
YOU SEE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT AND JIMMIE WILL RETURN TO THE TRACK.
DOC?>>AND THE LAST FOUR OR FIVE
LAPS, HE WAS LOOSE IN THE FRONT. HE WAS LOSING THE NOSE.
FOUR TIRES AND FUR. VINCE?
>>THE 88 OF DALE EARNHARDT JR. SAYS IT’S FREE IN THE MIDDLE,
OFF THE TURN. THAT IS WHERE HE NEEDS THE MOST
HELP. THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE A CHASSIS
ADJUSTMENT, AND REALLY GETS GOOD AFTER THE FIRST 15 LAPS OF THE
RUN. THEY WANT TO MAKE IT BETTER FOR
THE FIRST 15. DAVE?
>>RYAN NEWMAN’S CAR WAS TIGHT AND LOOSE AFTER THEY MADE THE
ADJUSTMENTS AND IT’S TIGHT AGAIN.
DOING THE CYCLE. HE RAN IN THE 11th POSITION IN
THIS RUN. THEY ADDED TAPE TO THE FRONT AND
PUT WEDGE IN THE 31 CAR.>>BRAD KESELOWSKI TOOK OVER THE
LEAD. HER IS KESELOWSKI DOWN TO HIS
CREW’S ATTENTION.>>THATRY CONSERVATIVE WITH
CHAMBER AND AIR PRESSURE AND YOU UNDERSTAND WHY.
THEY NEED THE POINTS IN THE FINISH.
AND ONE DOWN, AND RIGHT REAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN FREE AND LEFT
SIDE TIRES, FLAWLESS PIT STOP FOR BRAD K.
>>THEY WILL COMPLETE THE PIT STOPS AND JEFF GORDON, THE LEAD
OVER HARVICK, MORE THAN IT WAS WHEN THE CYCLE STARTED.
WE WILL DOCUMENT THAT WHEN WE GO BACK TO CHARLOTTE.
>>>MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL THIS WEEK.
SAN FRANCISCO AND ST. LOUIS. NO OTHER NIGHT IS MONDAY NIGHT.
>>A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT AT GOODYEAR.
GOODYEAR, THE OFFICIAL TIRE OF NASCAR.
GRUELING DEMANDS, PERFECTLY DEFINES THE CHARLOTTE MOTOR
SPEEDWAY. AND QUALIFYING AT SPEEDS OF
NEARLY 200 MILES AN HOUR AROUND A MILE AND A HALF TRACK.
AND RIGHT NOW, LEADER JEFF GORDON, RUNNING BETTER THAN 83.5
MILES AN HOUR. A NUMBER OF LAPS IN AFTER A PIT
STOP. KEVIN HARVICK WAS ONE SECOND
BEHIND JEFF GORDON IN THE PIT STOPS AND NOW HE IS 3 1/2 BACK.
AND HERE IS A COUPLE REASONS WHY.
>>HE HAD THE FIRST PIT AS YOU CAME OFF THE TRACK.
HE HAVE WAS A LITTLE CAUTIOUS RIGHT THERE.
HE SLID THE TIRE A BIT AND HE HAD ANOTHER ISSUE.
>>A HICCUP ON THE RIGHT HERE. THE STOP WASN’T TERRIBLE.
IT WASN’T VERY QUICK. AND COST HIM A BIT OF TIME.
AND YOU CAN SEE HE LOST A SECOND AND A HALF TO JEFF GORDON ON THE
TIRE STOP.>>MIGHT NOT BE ALL THERE IS TO
THE STORY ALSO.>>ALL THAT WAS IS A PIT STOP.
I CAUGHT MYSELF GOING WAY TOO FAST AND HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN.
I DIDN’T KNOW WHERE I WAS. I LOST A BUNCH OF PIT ROAD
MYSELF.>>WE SAW THAT, AND THOSE FIRST
STOPS, THE FIRST TIME THAT YOU COME IN UNDER GREEN, IT’S
PROBABLY A SPOT THAT HARVICK IS NOT USED TO PITTING AT.
HE GOT TOO QUICK AND HE KNEW THAT HE COULD NOT AFFORD A
SPEEDING PENALTY. AND SLOWING DOWN — IF YOU LOSE
A HALF SECOND OR A SECOND THAT IS WAY BETTER THAN WHAT YOU GET
WITH THAT PENALTY. AND ONCE AGAIN, DOING THE SMART
THING.>>CARL EDWARDS AND PAUL MENARD,
99 AND 77, RACING FOR 16th AND 17th AND THE 27th CAR, AFTER A
PENALTY ON THE FIRST SET OF PIT STOPS AND A CREW MEMBER GOING
OVER THE WALL TOO SOON BEFORE THEY ARE ALLOWED AND THAT SENT
THE 27 TO THE BACK OF THE LINE AND HE HAS MADE A NICE RALLY
FROM 38th PLACE.>>AND AN EXTREMELY NICE RACE
CAR.>>BRAD KESELOWSKI, AND TONY
STEWART. AND BRAD UP TO 7th PLACE AND
TONY BACK TO 8th AND STARTING FOR TONY IN FOURTH POSITION.
>>AND TONY HAD A REALLY STRONG FIRST RUN BEFORE THE COMPETITION
CAUTION. IT SEEMS LIKE HE LOST A BIT
SINCE THEN. I DON’T THINK ANY OF LSU BE
SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT KESELOWSKI IS A FACTOR ON THIS
NIGHT. WINNING THIS RACE LAST YEAR.
>>ONE OF THE THINGS I TALKED TO CHAD JOHNSON ABOUT, HAVE YOU GOT
YOUR RHYTHM BACK AND HE SAID, WE HAVE A PULSE, WE HAVE A HEART
BEAT. WE ARE MOVING BUT IT’S BEEN
GOOD. I JUST LOOKED AT THE TIRES THAT
CAME OFF THE 14. TONY DRIVING IT HARD AND THE CAR
TIGHT AT TIMES AND ALL THE TIRES, SOLID ON THE 14 RIGHT
NOW.>>ALL RIGHT, DAVE, SO THERE IS
TONY STEWART RUNNING STILL BETTER THAN 180 MILES AN HOUR.
ON A 68-DEGREE NIGHT RACE. WE ARE BACK TO CHARLOTTE AFTER
THIS MESSAGE AND A WORD FROM YOUR ABC STATION.
>>>CAUTION OUT, PIT STOP ON. VINCE?
>>JEFF GORDON, LED 70 LAPS TONIGHT.
HE REALLY LIKES THE RACETRACK, NO CHANGES FOR THE 24.
DOC?>>KURT BUSCH SAID, A HALF POUND
OF AIR PRESSURE, LEFT REAR AND A TRACK BAR.
KYLE BUSCH SAYS I NEED WEDGE. TWO TIFRS OPTING TO GO FOUR SO
THE FAR V CAR FEELS SLOPPY. HE HE WILL BE IN LINE COMES OFF
PIT ROAD.>>INTERESTING.
DALE JR.’S TEAM GOES FOR RIGHTS AGAIN AND THAT IS GOING TO BE A
PENALTY. LOOKS LIKE ALLMENDINGER’S TEAM.
THEY WILL GET AWAY WITH THAT ONE, I BELIEVE.

A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH IT.>>OVER AND OVER AND OVER, LUCKY
CAME IT OUT, WHAT IT DID.>>CHILDERS, CREW CHIEF,
REPORTING TO HIS DRIVER WHAT HAPPENED THERE ON THE PIT STOP.
>>AND TWO FRESH TIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE.
AND EVERYBODY ELSE, ON THE CHASE FOUR.
THREE WIDE, KYLE BUSCH DOWN LOW AND UP FRONT, McMURRAY, AROUND
THE OUTSIDE FOR THE RACE LEAD.>>JEFF GORDON, ALL KINDS OF
TROUBLE GETTING GOING ON TURNS ONE AND TWO.
AND HAD IT LONG BACK UP.>>HEY, LOOKED LIKE HE SLIPPED
AS HE TRIED TO GET BACK DOWN TO THE THROTTLE.
AND LOOKED LIKE KYLE BUSCH IS HAVING ISSUES ON THE RESTART.
HE IS UP A FEW SPOTS NOW.>>HARVICK THROUGH TO SECOND.
LOOK AT THAT LIGHT BLUE NUMBER TWO.
BRAD KESELOWSKI, CAME INTO THIS WITH AN IF NOT MUST WIN, MUST
RUN WELL. STARTED BACK IN 17th PLACE.
HE IS RUNNING FIFTH AND LOOKING FOR MORE.
>>YOU SEE KURT BUSCH, THE 41, THE BACK BUMPER OF KESELOWSKI,
AND A GOOD RUN AFTER THE RESTART, REALLY FLYING AROUND
THE BOTTOM OF THE RACETRACK.>>KURT TO SIXTH.
AND MAYBE MORE. LOOKING — RATHER KESELOWSKI, TO
SIXTH. AND NOW TO FOURTH, UNDERNEATH
EARNHARDT JR.>>THE TWO-TIRE DEAL, I’M NOT
SURE ABOUT. JUNIOR HASN’T LED EITHER TIME HE
HAS ABLE TO DO THAT. HE HAS BEEN ABLE TO LEAD THE
LAST TIME.>>AND A LEAD CHANGE HERE UP
FRONT TOO. KEVIN HARVICK ON A ROLL ON JAMIE
McMURRAY.>>I DON’T KNOW IF HE PASSED GO,
BUT HE IS CERTAINLY GOING. IS IT 1300?
>>AS FAR AS I KNOW IT IS, THAT IS ALL I’M EVER GOING TO GET.
>>CLINT BOWYER’S CAR, REPORTED RETIRED FROM THE RACE WITH AN
ENGINE FAILURE.>>THE CAR IS SMOKING OFF TURN
FOUR. I BELIEVE IT’S 13.
>>YEAH, I BELIEVE IT’S KASEY MEARS.
AND DAMAGE ON THE FENDER?>>LEFT REAR.
>>IT’S NOT GOING TO LAST LONG RIGHT THERE.
>>WOW, WHAT THAT IS ALL ABOUT. LOOKED LIKE THEY ARE ARGUING
OVER REAL ESTATE.>>THERE WAS SOMETHING EARLIER
THAT LEADS UP TO THAT.>>MIGHT BE SOMETHING LIGHTER
TOO.>>I HAVE WATCHED IT, KEEP
GOING, I’M WATCHING.>>YEAH, COME ON.
>>YEAH, IT IS.>>AND CASEY MEARS WILL HAVE TO
PIT UNDER THE GREEN FLAG. HE HAD JUST TAKEN A LEAD TO GET
BACK ON THE LEAD LAP. AND MEARS, GREG BIFFLE,
STENHOUSE. ALEX BOWMAN, MICHAEL ANNETT AND
COLE WHITT. AND HERE IS JORDAN, TRYING TO
GET UP TO McMURRAY TO SECOND PLACE.
AND BEHIND THEM, BRAD KESELOWSKI HAS REPASSED KURT BUSCH AND
KESELOWSKI, RAN FOURTH.>>YEAH, KESELOWSKI MADE A GREAT
RUN, CERTAINLY. AND HE SAID, I THOUGHT IT WOULD
TAKE LONGER THAT TO GET UP INSIDE THE TOP FIVE.
HE WILL BE A FACTOR TONIGHT.>>AND SECOND PLACE CHANGES
HANDS. AND HE IS GOING TO HAVE TO USE
HIS LONG RANGE VISION FINDER. LOOK AT THE GAP IN JUST A FEW
LAPS.>>>ALREADY PAST THE ONE-THIRD

A PRETTY GOOD ROLE FOR MATT KENSETH IN THE RACE.
GOOD ROLE FOR JIMMIE JOHNSON, THE SIX-TIME CHAMPION WHO
STARTED THE RACE ABSOLUTELY LAST IN THE STANDINGS, AND THE
DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBLE AFTER A DIFFICULT RACE LAST
SUNDAY IN THE KANSAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY.
JIMMIE WAS TAPPED BY ANOTHER DRIVER AND CRASHED.
WOUND UP FINISHING IN 40th PLACE.
THEN IN QUALIFYING HERE, HE THOUGHT HE HAD A SHOT ON THE
POLE THURSDAY NIGHT, THE WIGGLE FORCED HIM TO ABANDON THE LAP.
AND HE GOT ENOUGH SPEED FOR 21st PLACE.
AND THAT IN PRACTICE, THE TAP. AND YET, HERE JIMMIE IS HAVING
ROLLED HIS WAY INSIDE THE TOP TEN IN THE LAST TWO SEGMENTS OF
THE RACE WITH A CAR THAT CERTAINLY APPEARS TO HAVE SPEED
TO GET UP FRONT TO CONTEND FOR A TOP FIVE.
>>CERTAINLY LOOKS LIKE IT HAS A LOT OF SPEED AND A LOT OF
DRIVABILITY TO IT. AND IF SOMEONE IS RUNNING ON THE
BOTTOM, SHE ABLE TO DO THAT. A LOT OF SPEED.
>>LOOK AT THE NUMBER, HE STARTED 27 POINTS BEHIND THE 8th
PLACE DRIVER IN THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY.
DAVE BURNS HAS MORE ON JIMMIE JOHNSON.
>>THE TEAM WORKED UNTIL 8:30 P.M. LAST NIGHT TO BEAT OUT AND
TOO THE SPECIFICATIONS TO BE FAST TONIGHT.
I ASKED HIM, DO YOU HAVE TO MOTIVATE THE TEAM AT ALL.
AND HE TALKED HIM UP. AND SAID, NO WAY.
THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS. WHETHER IT’S GOOD OR BAD, THEY
OPERATE THE SAME WAY AND THEY ARE GOING TO DO A GOOD JOB.
AND JIMMIE IS SHOWING IT NOW. THE LAST ONE, THE TIGHTNESS WAS
GONE AND THIS ONE, JUST A LITTLE LAZY ON THE RIGHT FRONT IN THE
CORNER AND A LITTLE OFF. BUT HE IS SHOWING WHAT THE TEAM
CAN DO.>>SEEING THE 78 CAR INSIDE THE
TOP TEN.>>ABSOLUTELY.
AND THIS, THE SAME CAR THAT RAN LAST SUNDAY IN KANSAS SPEEDWAY.
TOOK IT BACK TO THEIR SHOPS, AND MOST OF THE TEAMS HERE ARE IN
DENVER, COLORADO. MARTIN SAID I LIKE THE WAY THE
CAR FELT. AND HAD IT HERE IN TIME FOR THE
OPENING OF PRACTICE THURSDAY.>>THAT IS QUITE AN EFFORT.
YOU DON’T SEE THE TEAMS RUN BACK TO — THE CARS BACK-TO-BACK
RACES. AND IT SHOWS THE EFFORT.
AND PAYING OFF FOR THEM HERE ONCE AGAIN TONIGHT.
>>AND DENNY HAMLIN STARTED THE RACE THIS THIRD POSITION.
HE FINDS HIMSELF IN 18th SPOT NOW.
WE CHECK IN HIS PIT WITH VINCE.>>AND INTERESTING SITUATION FOR
HAMLIN. AND FIGHTING TIGHT AND THEY ALSO
HAD ISSUES IN THE PITS. THEIR NORMAL JACK MAN, NATE
BOLING, YOU SEE HIM THERE ON THE SCREEN, SUFFERED A ELBOW INJURY
AND HAD TO GO TO THE MEDICAL CENTER.
THAT MEANS THEY NEED A BACKUP FOR THE POSITION.
THE BACKUP IS KEVIN PURCELL. A GOOD LOOK AT PURCELL THERE ON
THE LEFT HAND SIDE. HE WILL GO FROM LIFTING THE FUEL
CANS TO NOW JACKING THE CAR AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL ASSIST WITH
THE FUEL CANS. SO THE DEPTH OF THIS 11 PIT TEAM
IS GOING TO BE PUT TO THE TEST KNOWN AS ONE OF THE BEST CREW ON
PIT ROAD, HAS TO SHOW IT TONIGHT.
>>THESE ARE ATHLETES THAT ARE RECRUITED AND TRAINED TO SERVICE
THE CARS. THEIR FOOTWORK IS STUDIED, THE
WEIGHT TRAINING, AND THE EFFICIENCY GETTING AROUND THE
CAR AND THERE ARE INJURIES THAT HAPPEN.
ALL THE TEAMS HAVE BACKUP TEAMS THAT TRAIN AS WELL.
FARM SYSTEMS, IF YOU WILL. AND DENNY HAMLIN’S TEAM HAS TO
GO WITH THE NEXT MAN UP.>>A LOT OF TEAMS TRAVEL WITH
THE BACKUP. AND THE OTHER THING THEY HAVE TO
DO IS WORK ON THE RACE CAR A BIT.
>>AND THERE FOR 17th AND 18th POSITION.
HAMLIN, THE CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER UP OF A FEW YEARS GUY.
COMING OFF A 7th PLACE FINISH IN KANSAS CITY LAST SUNDAY.
RACING HERE TRYING TO GET BACK IN THE TOP TEN IN CHARLOTTE.
BACK AFTER THIS.>>THE BANK OF AMERICA 500 FROM
CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY. AND JEFF GORDON LEADING BY THREE
SECONDS. AND A LOOK AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
STANDINGS IN THE RACE WHERE THEY RUN ON THE RACETRACK.
THE RIGHT HAND COLUMN AND WHAT THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE, WITH
STILL 200 LAPS TO GO IN THIS ONE.
KEVIN HARVICK, SO STRONG, SO DOMINANT OVER THE LAST COUPLE
MONTHS AND PULLING AWAY TO — TROUBLE, PAUL MENARD.
>>ONE OUT.>>CAUTION FLAG IS OUT.
>>GO TO THE GARAGE, GUYS.>>THAT SLUGGER, THE CRUISE
CHIEF. THIS IS HIS FINAL RACE, AND
TALKED TO SLUGGER IN THE GARAGE TODAY.
HOPING TO GO OUT WITH A TROPHY. THEY CERTAINLY HAD A FAST RACE
CAR WHILE IT LASTED.>>WELL, THAT THING REALLY
FWLOOU BLEW UP.>>YOU CAN TELL HE FELT
SOMETHING. TRITENING UP AND DOWN OUT OF THE
GROOVE. THAT THING, LET GOIT.
HE HAD GOTTEN UP TO 12th.>>THAT IS NOT TOO GOOD.
>>NOT GOING TO FIX THAT ONE.>>AND THERE IS — CLINT BOWYER
THERE WITH THE T-SHIRT, WAEFRING AT MENARD.
I THINK IT WAS CLINT.>>YEAH, HE HAD THE SAME FATE
EARLIER.>>YEAH.
>>TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO CLEAN UP THE APRON AND A BIT OF
PIT ROAD BEFORE HE COULD GO TO THE GARAGE AAREA.
>>YEAH, IT WILL BE A SECOND BEFORE WE SEE PIT STOPS.

LEADING THE RACE, FIRST AND SECOND WITH KEVIN HARVICK AND
JEFF GORDON.>>A FEW TEAMS STRUGGLING.
AND KYLE BUSCH, A LOT OF CARS NEED ADJUSTING.
AND THE RACETRACK IS IN THE PHASE OF CHANGING.
>>ONE THING THAT WAS ON EVERYBODY’S MIND STARTING THE
RACE, TIRE WEAR, TIRE CONCERNS AND SO ON, THAT IS NOT A MAJOR
STORY.>>THE ONE THING THAT HAS
HAPPENED, THE CAUTIONS HAVE FALLEN RIGHT AND THEY SHORT
PITTED TO MAKE SURE WE DON’T HAVE ISSUES ON THE GREEN FLAG
RUN WE HAD.>>GOING TO BE A DPU MINUTES
BEFORE PIT ROAD IS OPEN WHILE THEY CLEAN UP THE OIL.
ON THE PIT RUN AND THE APRON WHERE THE CARS ENTER THE PIT
ROAD. WE WILL TAKE A BREAK HERE AND
COME BACK FOR THE AX ON THE PIT LANE AND THE RESTART HERE IN
CHARLOTTE.>>>BACK LIVE IN CHARLOTTE.
PIT ROAD IS CLOSED BUT DALE EARNHARDT JR. HAS COME IN EARLY
WITH A PROBLEM ON THE 88 CAR. VINCE?
>>JUNIOR SAID THE GEAR SHIFT HAS BROKEN IN ON HIS HAND.
AND YOU SEE THE CREW MEMBER TRYING TO REATASH THE GEAR
SHIFT. IT BROKE OFF AND CERTAINLY —
OBVIOUSLY, SOMETHING THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE
TO RACE WITH WITH COMFORT ON CONFIDENCE.
AND JUNIOR HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT A VIBRATION EARLIER.
NOT SURE IF THAT IS RELATED TO THAT.
THAT IS A PRIMARY CONCERN. AND JUST BEFORE THIS CAUTION
KAMG OUT, HE RADIOED IN AND SAID THE GEAR SHIFT HAD BROKEN OFF IN
HIS HAND. HAD TO PIT.
WHETHER THE PIT LANE WAS OPEN OR NOT.
THEY HAVE ADDRESSED IT. SEE IF THEY HAVIC TATEN CARE OF.
>>THAT IS THE PROBLEM THAT THEY HAD BEFORE.
JIMMIE JOHNSON HAVING THE SAME ISSUE A FEW WEEKS BACK.
>>THE WAY HE STRUGGLED TO GET OUT OF THE PIT STALL, THEY DON’T
HAVE IT DONE YET.>>THEY DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT
SIDE SAFETY WINDOW BACK UP. AND JUNIOR HAS TO GO TO THE TAIL
END OF THE LINE FOR THE RESTART FROM 9th POSITION AND WE HAVE 22
CARS ON THE LEAD LAP.>>HE WILL BE BACK RIGHT HERE.
>>AND SOME POINT IN TIME, LED ALL THE OTHERS PIT WHERE THEY
CAN GET RIGHT BEHIND THE PACE CAR AS CLOSE AS THEY CAN.
AND THEY WILL GIVE THEM — GIVE THEM MORE TIME TO WORK ON THE
CAR AND TRY TO GET INSIDE.>>TOUGH TO GET IN THERE, ANDY,
AND TRY TO DO THAT. YOU HAVE BEEN IN THAT POSITION
BEFORE.>>AND ESPECIALLY DOWN WHERE THE
SHIFT HAS BROKEN OFF. THERE IS A FIREPROOF BOOT THAT
GOES ON THE LEVER AND THEY HAVE TO TAKE IT OFF AND GET
UNDERNEATH THAT. IT’S DIFFICULT TO DO THAT.
>>AND AFTER THE PROBLEMS IN KANSAS CITY WHERE HE HAD A RIGHT
FRONT TIRE FAILURE, HE CRASHED IN THE WALL AND FINISHED 39th,
JUNIOR MUST FINISH WELL HERE TONIGHT.
AND JUST PAST A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES IN THIS ONE, HE HAS TO
GIVE UP HIS TRACK POSITION AND GO TO THE TAIL END OF THE LINE.
PID ROAD IS HOPE FOR THE CARS HERE.
>>KEVIN HARVICK, HIS GUN WAS MALFUNCTIONING THE LAST STOP.
HE SAID HE DOESN’T HAVE A REPLACEMENT GUN.
HE SAID IT HAS TO WORK THIS TIME.
FOUR TIRES ON HIM AND FILL HIM UP WITH FUEL.
THE CAR HAS BEEN GOOD.>>AND JAMIE McMURRAY IN
TRAFFIC. THE CAR HASN’T HANDLED THE WAY
HE WANTS TO. AND THEY WILL MAKE A CHASSIS
ADJUSTMENT AND NOT AS COMFORTABLE ON ENTRY.
FOUR TIRES AND A TRACK BAR.>>AND KESELOWSKI THAT IS A GOOD
THING. FOUR TIRES UP AND HAD A LITTLE
BIT OF WEDGE IN THE REAR. HE WILL HUSTLE DOWN PIT ROAD.
LOOKS LIKE HE MAY BE THIRD OFF IN THIS STOP.
>>ALL THE CARS BACK ON THE RACETRACK THEY ARE BACK INSIDE,
TRYING AND FIX THE SHIFTER HANDLE AND BACK IN COMPETITION
MODE. DALE JR. WILL BE IN THE BACK OF
THE LINE FOR IT. A ROUGH NIGHT HERE IN CHARLOTTE
RIGHT NOW.>>>DOUBLED UP FOR A RESTART.
AND KEVIN HARVICK MAINTAINING THE LEAD AND JEFF GORDON
ALONGSIDE HIM. AND DALE EARNHARDT JR. WILL BE
IN THE BACK OF THE LINE. THEY STILL DON’T HAVE THE
SHIFTER HANDLE FIXED. AND THIS IS A REMINDER OF WHAT
WE SAW IN MICHIGAN.>>THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY HAD.
BREAKING THE SHIFT LEVER. NOT SURE WHAT IT IS.
THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT COMPANY WIDE WHEN THEY
HAD THE FIRST ONE. AND LOOKS LIKE IT REARED ITS
HEAD AGAIN.>>AND SUFFERING THE PROBLEM IN
MICHIGAN IN AUGUST. MARTIN TRUEX JR., MISSING LUG
NUTS, HAD TO DROP IN THE RESTART.
>>>KURT BUSCH TO SECOND. JAMIE McMURRAY TO THIRD.
JEFF GORDON BACK TO FOURTH.>>I THINK KURT BUSCH HAS A
GREAT CAR FOR THE RESTART. AND NOW HE HAS GOT WAY UP CLOSER
TO THE LEAD AND HE DOESN’T TAKE THE LEAD.
>>JEFF GORDON’S CAR, SEEMS LIKE IT’S NOT THAT GOOD, ESPECIALLY
DOWN IN TURNS ONE AND TWO AS HE TRIES TO GET THE CAR UP THE
LEAD.>>KYLE BUSCH STARTED ON POLE.
LED IN THE EARLY GOING, SLIPPED BACK A BIT AND TRIED TO MAKE UP
LOST GROUND HERE. AND RACING FOR FIFTH WITH BRAD
KESELOWSKI AND JIMMIE JOHNSON. LAST LEAD FOR THE LEAD.
AND 190.4 MILES AN HOUR. UNBELIEVABLE.
JOEY LOGANO, TRYING TO MAKE TIME IN THE HIGH LANE, RACING CARL
EDWARDS HERE FOR NINTH AND TENTH PLACE.
>>YOU SEE A BIG WIGGLE THERE FROM EDWARDS IN THE 99.
AND TO THE INSIDE THERE. AND VICKERS HAD HIS ON THE
INSIDE THERE. AND BOTTLED UP THE INSIDE LINE.
>>MAD KENSETH HAS COME ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE IN THE 12th
SPOT. STARTING IN THE REAR OF THE
RACE.>>KYLE LARSON, BEHIND VICKERS,
AND LOST HIM A COUPLE SPOTS IN THE OUTSIDE LANE, ROLLING BY.
47, A.J. ALLMENDINGER, AND 14th PLACE.
AND KASEY KAHNE IS BEHIND HIM.>>LOOK PAT LARSON GAS THAT CAR
UP, WHEN HE GOT IN THE OUTSIDE LANE.
>>HE IS FUN TO WATCH.>>YEAH.
>>EDWARDS REALLY STRUGGLING WITH THE NUMBER 99 OF HIS RIGHT
NOW. REALLY JUST NOT SHOWING THE
SPEED. AND I THOUGHT MAYBE WHEN WE GOT
HERE, WITH A NIGHT RACE AND EVERYTHING, THE TRACK WITH SO
MUCH GRIP, MIGHT BE A FACTOR WITH IT.
AND THEY ARE NOT SHOWING IT TO THIS POINT.
>>THEY HAVEN’T. AND THE CREW CHIEF WAS
OPTIMISTIC ABOUT TONIGHT. AND AFTER FINISHING FIFTH, THEY
THOUGHT THEY HAD SOMETHING. AND CARL HAS BEEN TOO TIGHT.
THAT HAS BEEN THE ISSUE. AND THEY ARE WORKING AND NOT
MAKING A LOT OF PROGRESS.>>AND JIMMIE TOLD ME, HE SAID,
I THINK WE HAVE TO WIN. AND THEY HAVE TO DO WORK ON IT.
>>IT DIDN’T LOOK LIKE THEY HAD A FIFTH PLACE CAR LAST WEEK AND
THAT IS WHERE THEY ENDED UP.>>YOU HAVE TO RUN ALL 500 MILES
TO FIGURE OUT WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO SETTLE, RIGHT?
>>THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT.>>KASEY KAHNE, MATT KENSETH, 5
AND 20 RACING FOR 14th AND 15th PLACES WITH AUSTIN DILLON RIGHT
BEHIND HIM IN THE THREE. DALE EARNHARDT JR. WILL TO DROP
FROM NINTH PLACE BACK TO 23rd. LAST CAR ON THE LAP FOR THE
RESTART AND THEY STILL DON’T HAVE THE SHIFTER LEVER FIXED IN
THE 88 AND THEY ARE WORKING HARD NOW TO TRY TO OVERCOME ANOTHER
PROBLEM ON A NIGHT WHEN THEY HAVE TO RUN WELL.
>>RESTART. THIRD, I MEAN THAT IS JUST —
DON’T WORRY ABOUT THAT T.J. WE NEED A BIG FINISH.
THINK ABOUT THAT. I WILL HANDLE THE RACETRACK
HERE.>>YOU HAVE THE TRACK.

AND THE PROGRESS OF THE NIGHT IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE RACE.
WE START CAN JAMIE.>>AND KEVIN HARVICK, LED 56
LAPS AND WAY HE IS RUNNING NOW, IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE IT’S BEEN
SIX MONTHS SINCE THIS TEAM HAS BEEN TO VICTORY LANE.
PERHAPS THEY WILL CHANGE THAT LUCK TONIGHT.
AND A COUPLE ISSUES ON PIT ROAD, THAT HASN’T STOPPED THEM.
BACK ON THE ADJUSTMENTS ONNEN THE LAST STOP.
HE IS AS HAPPY AS HE HAS BEEN ALL NIGHT LONG.
VINCE?>>JEFF GORDON, RIGHT NOW, HE IS
RUNNING FOURTH AS THE HANDLE HAS GONE AWAY ON THIS ONE.
THEY REALLY LIKE THE BALANCE OF IT EARLY.
BUT SINCE THEN, IT’S GONE AWAY. BUT A TRACK BAR ADJUSTMENT ON
THE LAST STOP WASN’T TO HIS LIKING.
THEY ARE WORKING ON IT. A LONG WAY TO GO.
DOC?>>WELL, KESELOWSKI HAS BEEN THE
MAN ON THE 1.5 MILE TRACKS. HE DIDN’T QUALIFY WELL, HE SAID
HE COULD HAVE REALLY GOOD CAR TO RACE WITH.
AND HE DOES. AND THAT IS BETTER THAN LATE.
BY THE WAY, HE IS BIDING HIS TIME, NOT GOING TO PUSH THE CAR
TO THE UNTIL 100 MILES. BEHIND HIM IS THE 18 CAR THAT
WAS THE POLE SITTER, KYLE BUSCH. AND MAN, KYLE SAID THE CAR HAS
BEEN VERY, VERY LOOSE. THEY CAME IN, PUT A RUBBER IN
THE LEFT REAR, MORE WEDGE IN THE CAR.
HE SAID THE CAR IS LOOSE. I NEED MORE SPRING AND MORE
WEDGE TO GET THE CAR TO GRIP AND TURN IN THE CORNER.
DAVE?>>AT CHARLOTTE, JIMMIE JOHNSON
IS A LEGEND. SEVEN POINTS WINS AND A 21st
PLACE QUALIFYING EFFORT. THE CAR HAS DON’T BETTER.
AND SMALLED A JUSTMENTS LAST TIME AND CURRENTLY IN THE 7th
HIS. RYAN NEWMAN’S CAR IS LOOSE
EARLY, TIGHT LATE AND THE LAST TIME, A LITTLE TIGHT AND AN AIR
PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT. AND THE BEST IT’S BEEN ALL
NIGHT. DOC?
>>HOW ABOUT THE GUY WHOA WON LAST WEEK.
AND GOTTEN VERY, VERY FREE. SAID WE ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE
THAT TONIGHT. AND THE CAR HAS BEEN FREE
TONIGHT. AND TAPE ON THE GRILL AND MADE
AN ADJUSTMENT AND FREED THE CAR UP AND STILL VERY SNUG.
JAMIE?>>CARL EDWARDS, STARTED THE
NIGHT TENTH. THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD A GOOD CAR
GOING TO TONIGHT’S RACE AND SFLA BEEN TAKING BIG SWINGS AT IT.
IT’S NOT BEEN HANDLING THE WAY THEY WANT IT.
AND CARL, JUST RADIOING IN. HE CAN’T DO ANYTHING.
HE IS JUST LOOSE ON THE GAS. DAVE?
>>KASEY KAHNE STARTED THE NIGHT EIGHT POINTS BELOW THE CUT OFF
LINE AND STRUGGLING OF LATE. THEY MADE SIX ADJUSTMENTS TO THE
CAR AND AIR, AIR, AIR. AND LEFT FRONT ADJUSTMENT.
A LOT TO GET THE 5 CAR BETTER. HE SAID THEY ARE STILL WAITING
ON IT. JAMIE?
>>AND MATT KENSETH, AND NASCAR SAID THEY HAVE IMPROVEMENT EARLY
AND HE MADE HIS PROVE UP EARLY AND THEN THE CAR JUST STOPPED
ROLLING. AND THEY ARE TRYING TO HELP HIM
OUT AND HE IS SAYING HE IS A LITTLE TIGHT AS HE SEARCHES
AROUND TO MAKE THE CAR HANDLE BETTER.
VINCE?>>DENNY HAMLIN STARTED THIRD.
HE’S HAD HIS HANDS FULL THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE
NIGHT. AND NOT ABLE TO GET THE CAR
FREED UP ENOUGH. AND THEY HAD PACK TOERS GET THE
SPLITTER UP OFF THE TRACK. AND ALSO AN ISSUE IN THE PITS
WHERE THE JACK MAN HAD AN ELBOW INJURY.
HAD GO TO A BACKUP. THE 11 HAS SEEN A BIT OF
EVERYTHING. HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO MOVE UP.
AND THE 88 OF DALE EARNHARDT JR. WE TALKED ABOUT THE GEAR SHIFT
BREAKING OFF IN HIS HAND RECENTLY.
THAT IS WHAT HE HAD TO DEAL WITH.
AND THEY CAME IN TO TRY TO FIX IT.
NOT FIXED TO HIS LIKING AND THEY ARE MAKING DUE.
ALLEN?>>WELL, DALE JR., CERTAINLY THE
HEADLINE OF THE NIGHT. WHERE THE THREE DRIVERS WHO HAD
PROBLEMS IN KANSAS LAST SUNDAY ARE CONCERNED AND JUNIOR BACK IN
22nd PLACE. WE ARE HALF A RACE TO GO.
WE ARE PAST HALFWAY, CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY.
KEVIN HARVICK IS THE LEADER.>>THE EPIER IN IN DOWNTOWN.
AND THE CHARLOTTE HORNETS MAYBE THEIR RETURN TO THE NBA.
THE HOME EPER AGAINST THE BUCKS COMING UP ON OCTOBER 29th HERE
AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY. AND THE RACE FOR SECOND CHASE.
JAMIE McMURRAY TO PICK UP THAT SPOT.
>>HERE ARE TWO OF THEM. McMURRAY AND BUSCH.
>>WE TALK ABOUT THE WINNER OF THIS ONE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT
ROUND. WELL, NOT NECESSARILY.
ONE OF THE DRIVERS SHOULD DO THAT, THAT IS GOING TO MAKE THE
11 DRIVERS NEXT WEEK AT TALLADEGA.
>>UPDATE ON McMURRAY FROM VINCE.
>>HE WON THE RACE HERE IN MAY. FINISHED SIXTH IN THE 500.
LED A COUPLE TIMES HERE IN THE PAST AND THIS TEAM IS REALLY
IMPROVING. AND KEITH RODDEN, HIS FIRST YEAR
AS CREW CHIEF IN THIS ONE. HE WOULD LIKE THE CAR TO TURN A
LITTLE BETTER BUT McMURRAY IS HAPPY THE WAY THINGS HAVE GONE
NOW. DOC?
>>NO SURPRISE THAT KURT BUSCH IS RUNNING WELL.
DANIEL SAID THAT THEY WENT BACK AND ADDED WEDGE AND THE CAR TOOK
OFF. AND RIGHT NOW, KURTD SAID THE
CAR IS A LITTLE TOO FREE. AND THAT IS OFF.
THAT IS IT WHY HE LOST THE SPOT A MOMENT AGO TO McMURRAY.
ALLEN?>>KYLE LARSON AND BRIAN
VICKERS, THE ONLY TWO OTHER NOT CHASE DRIVERS IN THE TOP TEN.
AND LARSON HAS REALLY BEEN A SHOW IN THE LAST COUPLE LAPS.
SHE NOT JUST RUNNING UP AGAINST THE WALL.
BUT FOR SEVERAL LAPS NOW, HE HAS GONE INTO THE CORNERS.
AND HE TRIES TO PASS KESELOWSKI. HE IS GOING INTO THE CORNER,
JUST ABOUT SCRAPING THE WALL DOWN IN TURN ONE.
>>HE DIDN’T GET IN — I THOUGHT HE FELT THE 2 WAS GOING TO GO UP
AGAINST THE WALL AND HE WAS GOING TO GO TO THE BOTTOM.
IT WAS SO VISIBLE. YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO LOOK AT THE
MONITOR FOR FIVE LAPS. IT WAS JUST 42.
>>I GET THAT, HOW HIGH HE GOES IN THE CORNER.
>>HE IS RIGHT THERE. LOOK AT MOMENTUM HE GETS OFF
THERE, NO CONTEST.>>DOC, HE IS SOME KIND OF FUN
TO WATCH, THIS LARSON KID.>>INDEED HE IS.
AND THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING TO TIGHTEN HIM UP AND THEY TOLD ME
THAT KYLE IS A LOT LIKE JEFF GORDON.
HE LIKES TO FEEL THE CAR UNDER HIM.
IF THEY CAN GET A REAR GRIP, HE WILL RUN UP THERE INCHES AWAY
FROM THE WALL. IF HE DOES THAT, THEY HAVE THE
CAR TIGHT ENOUGH FOR HIM. AND LATE IN THE RACE, YOU SEE
KYLE MAKING A MOVE. IT’S TIGHT NOW AND HE IS RUNNING
UP ON THE WALL, VERY, VERY FAST.>>AND RIGHT THERE, WE WATCHED
HIM. AND GOING IN THE CORNERS, THAT
IS THE KEY TO MAKING IT WORK. BEING ABLE TO STAY UP THERE AND
THE ENTRY TO THE CORNER AND HE DOESN’T OVERDRIVER IT.
HE DOESN’T GET A BREAK. BUT HE IS BACK TO THE THROTTLE
SO FAST AND HARD. AND MAKES THE STRAIGHT A WAYS
EXTREMELY LONG.>>THAT IS SO MUCH FUN.
NOW, WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING LARSON FROM ON TELEVISION AND UP
HERE IN THE BOOTH, SOMEBODY ELSE IS WATCHING FROM INSIDE THE
COCKPIT IN ONE OF THE RACE TRARS.
>>THE 3 2 IS UP ON THE WALL. AND FEELING GOOD RIGHT NOW.
>>AND KNAUS GIVING JIMMIE JOHNSON THE INFORMATION.
>>AND HE WORKED ON THAT A LOT YESTERDAY IN PRACTICE.
WE SAW HIM RUN AS MUCH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RACETRACK.
AND WHAT WE HAD SEEN. BUT HE STILL JUST DOESN’T HAVE
THE CAR UNDER HIM RIGHT NOW TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT WORK.
>>GOING TO BEGIN TO SEE SOME GREEN FLAG PIT STOPS HERE SOON.
WE WATCH JIMMIE JOHNSON AND CHECK THE SPEEDS ON THE 48 CAR.
HE ROCKETS OFF THE CORNERS.>>YOU SEE HIM TRY TO RUN THE
HIGH LINE. AND LARSON, THREE-TENGTHS OF A
LAP FASTER, WHICH IS HUGE WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT SPEED.
YOU CAN SEE JIMMIE HAG TO FIGHT IT.
HE IS NOT ABLE TO KEEP IT AND KEEP THE SPEED UP.
YOU SEE HOW LONG HE IS PLAYING WITH THE THROTTLE?
YOU CAN’T GET THE SPEED. THAT IS THE KEY FOR LARSON,
CARRYING THE SPEED OFF THE CORNER AND DOWN THE STRAIGHT
AWAY.>>HERE COME THE BEGINNING OF
FLAG FLAG PIT STOPS, DAVE?>>DILLON WITH A SOLID NIGHT IN
THE THREE CAR. AND HE CAME DOWN, NO CHANGES TO
THE RACE CAR. AND THIS RUN, SIMILAR FOR HIM.
IN THE 15th POSITION. AND TONY STEWART, THE LAST RUN
WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL. THIS ONE, A LITTLE SNUG
ACCORDING TO THE DRIVER. THEY WILL MAKE ADJUSTMENTS FOR
THAT AS WELL.>>BACK TO THE GREEN IN LAP 144.
JUST ABOUT TO THE POINT FOR THE LEADERS TO HIT IT.
DAVE?>>KASEY KAHNE THOUGHT HE WAS
ONE OF FIRST PITTING. AND THE REPORT FROM THE DRIVER,
THE RIGHT FRONT IS NOT WORKING. THEY ARE ON PIT ROAD NOW MAKING
ADJUSTMENTS. JAMIE?
>>KEVIN HARVICK, TURN FOUR WITH 180 MILES AN HOUR AND ROLLS IT
RIGHT INTO THE NUMBER ONE PIT BOX.
THEY ARE COUNTING HIM DOWN SLOWLY AND YOU DO IN THE WANT TO
GET BUSTED SPEEDING IN THE FIRST SEGMENT HERE.
YOU SEE THE LINE, AND HE IS IN THE PIT BOX SAYING SHE TOO LOOSE
NOW. THEY DO WANT THE WEDGE
ADJUSTMENT. THEY NEED TO KEEP UP WITH THE
TRACK. AND THERE’S THE WEDGE ADJUSTMENT
AND FILL IT UP WITH FUEL. DOC?
>>AND JOEY LOGANO TROUBLE WITH A TIGHT RACE CAR.
GET IT FUEL OF FUEL. HERE IS THE 41 CAR OF KURT
BUSCH. AND THE CAR, JAUS FEW LAPS TO
GO, AND TIGHT MIDDLE, LOOSE OFF AND HALF IN, RIGHT REAR WEDGE
AND LEFT PRESSURE. AND LEFT SIDE GOING UP, TRYING
TO GET THE DOOR TAKE OFF AND NOT GIVEN THE EXIT IN THE FINAL 20
LAPS AND LEFT FRONT TIRE A BIT OF A DELAY, 14 SECONDS.
>>AND IT’S GOING TO BE A POUR-TIME CHANGE FOR JEFF GORDON
AND A TRACK BAR ADJUSTMENT GOING BACK.
AND THE CAR STILL PUSHING TOO MUCH AND THEY TOOK THE SITE OUT
WITH THE LAST STOP AND TAPE ON IT AS WELL.
>>AND EARLIER H TROUBLE, AND GAUGING THE SPEED DEPENDING ON
WHAT GEAR HE HAD THE CAR IN, AND CHASSIS ADJUST THE.
DOC?>>KESELOWSKI IN THE 2 CAR,
SAYING THE CAR JUST HAD A LITTLE BIT FREE, NOT BAD, TRYING TO
STAY AHEAD OF THAT PUTTING A WEDGE — THERE IS A RIGHT REAR
ADJUSTMENT AND SAYING THE CAR IS BETTER AND BETTER AND NOW A LEFT
REAR ADJUSTMENT AND THE LEFT HERE, HE IS AWAY.
>>KESELOWSKI GOT TANGLED UP WITH JUNIOR’S CREW AND GETTING
TO THE PIT STAHL. AND GORDON GOT TANGLED UP.
>>AND THIS IS GORDON, HAD CARS TRYING TO LEAVE AND GORDON,
REALLY HAVE TO SLOW DOWN. AND COST HIM QUITE A BIT OF
TIME.>>KESELOWSKI, TRYING TO PUSH
HIS CAR AWAY WITH HAVING A HIGH GEAR TO SELECT.
>>HARVICK HAD A CAR, THE 66, TO COME IN AND YOU CAN SEE HOW
TIGHT OFFENSE. AND SURE THAT CHILDRESS WILL
HAVE A TALK WITH HIM ABOUT TRYING TO PIT WITH A DIFFERENT
SEQUENCE.>>WATCH FROM THE 88 CEE
PERSPECTIVE.>>A THAT IS REALLY HARD TO GET
THE CAR GOES IN HIGH GEAR.>>AND THREE, THAT IS IT.
YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO PUSH THE CAR THREE PIT BOXES BY NASCAR
RULE NOW. AND THAT’S THE REASON WHY.
THERE ARE CONSIDERS — THE SPEED IS LIMITED ON PIT ROAD, THE CAR
IS STILL COMES DOWN THERE AT 45 MILES AN HOUR TO THE PIT BOX.
>>AND THE GUYS ARE UNPROTECTED. AND YOU HOPE THEY ARE PAYING
ATTENTION AND THEY ARE. BRAD DID A NICE JOB AVOIDING
THAT AND MAKING IT WORK.>>SO A LOT GOING ON IN THE
CYCLE OF PIT STOPS AND ABOUT THE SAME OVER McMURRAY.
AND PIT STOP BEGAN.>>>MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.
KAEPERNICK AND THE 49ers AND THE RAMS, SAN FRANCISCO/ST. LOUIS,
ON ESPN AND WATCH ESPN. AND NO OTHER NIGHT IS MONDAY
NIGHT. SATURDAY NIGHT, RACE FIVE, AND
THE BANK OF AMERICA 500 LED BY KEVIN HARVICK.
PASSED JEFF GORDON FOR THE MOST LAPS LED IN THIS ONE SO FAR.
HARVICK, 89 TO THE 197 CIRCUITS WE HAVE COMPLETED.
HIS GAP, JUST A SHADE UNDER FIVE SECOND AND KYLE LARSON THIRD,
KURT BUSCH FOURTH AND JEFF GORDON BACK TO FIFTH AFTER THE
HESITATION ON PIT ROAD FOR THE 24 CAR.
KESELOWSKI OUT OF THE TOP TEN FROM THE PIT ROAD ENTANGLEMENT
WE SAW CAN DALE JR.’S TEAM.>>AND CAUSED BRAD QUITE A BIT
OF POSITIONS BUT THE 42 CAR IS GOING TO BE THE STORY HERE.
HARVICK IS GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH HIM BEFORE THE NIGHT IS
OVER. AND ANYBODY ELSE THAT HAS
INTENTIONS OF WINNING THE RACE.>>THE WORDS I WAS GOING TO COME
OUT WITH IS WHAT A SHOCK. A STORY WE HAVE SEEN.
AND THERE IT IS. AND DALE JR. BACK IN 23rd.
AND JIMMIE JOHNSON AND KESELOWSKI, HAVING SOLID NIGHTS.
HAVING THEIR DEFICIT THEY STARTED THE RACE WITH.
BUT STILL A LONG WAY TO GO. BRAD KESELOWSKI NOW IN TENTH.
>>AND MOVE IT FORWART, STILL.>>I DON’T WANT TO ALLOW IT
AGAIN. AND STARTING UP ON THE SPEED.
>>AND STOP SHORT OF EVERYBODY.>>THEY HAVE BEEN COSTING THEM
AND THE ISSUE WITH THE 88 CAR AND EVERYBODY WORKED AGAINST
THEM TO PUT THEM BEHIND.>>SO KESELOWSKI, FALLING 15
SECONDS BEHIND THE RACE LEADER KEVIN HARVICK.
FROM THAT PIT ROAD TO DO. TONY STEWART GOING A LAP DOWN.
STEWART IN 20th PLACE. STARTED THE RACE IN THE TOP FIVE
IN FOURTH POSITION AFTER A SOLID OPENING RUN.
AND HAS GONE AWAY IN THE 14th START.
AND HERE IS JEFF GORDON, TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD AGAIN.
>>AND TWO CARS, THE DRIVERS GOING OPPOSITE THINGS.
AND KYLE BUSCH, FOLLOWING BACK EARLIER AND HANDLING ISSUES AND
THE CAR WAS NOT GOING WHAT HE WANTED AND JEFF GORDON UP
LEADING AND GORDON STRUGGLING WITH HIS A BIT AND SOME WHAT OF
A REBOUND.>>THE THING WE HAVE SEEN
CONSISTENTLY FROM GORDON’S CAR AND THE LONGER RUN SPEED, HIS
FORTE. IT HASN’T BEEN THEIR STRONG
SUIT.>>NO, AND THEY HAVE TO CONTINUE
TO WORK ON THIS. AND SEE IF THEY CAN HEM THAT A
BIT AND JUST HELP THE OVERALL DRIVABILITY THAT JEFF IS LOOKING
FOR. LONG GREEN FLAG ONE HERE.
AND 60 SEC TIF SLAPS, NEARLY 100 MILES AND KEVIN HARVICK, LED
ALMOST ALL OF THEM. AND TIME TO GO NASCAR NONSTOP.
CHARLOTTE TONIGHT, PRESENTED BY BANK OF AMERICA.
>>KEVIN HARVICK, CONTINUING THE LEAD.
AND CONTINUES THE SPRINT CUP SERIES.
AND UNUSUAL, HE ONLY LED ONE LAP IN THIS RACE, PRIOR IN HIS
CAREER. AND WE CHECKED THE MOST LAPS
LED, BROUGHT TO YOU BY SPRINT. AND IMPRESSIVE TALLY, IN TRIPLE
DIGITS. 30 LAPS HIGHER AND STAY
CONNECTED TO THE SPRINT CUP WITH THE FAMILY SHARE PACK.
AND UNLIMITED TALK AND TEXT. EARN MORE AT
SPRINT.COM/DATASHARE.>>
HARVICK LEADING McMURRAY BY
5.9 SECONDS. LOOK AT THAT TOTAL.
AND THE TOTAL FOR THE SEASON STARTING TONIGHT WAS 16,053.
>>THEY HAD A LOT OF SPEED. THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR.
THE ONE THING THEY HAVEN’T HAD IS TRANSLATING THE SPEED TO A
LOT OF VICTORIES. LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD THE CAR TO
BEAT.>>YOU THINK IT’S FRUSTRATION,
BUILDING AND BUILDING AND IT WAS AN OPPOSITE FOR KEVIN.
I THINK THIS IS A SPEED, GIVING HIM CONFIDENCE IT’S GOING TO GET
HIM TO WHERE HE WANTS TO GO, AND THAT IS TO BE IN THE FINAL FOUR.
AND THEN I THINK HE WANTS THE TROPHY.
>>AND CHAMPIONSHIP NOTE, MATT KENSETH HAS BEEN LAPPED OI KEVIN
HARVICK. AND TONY STEWART BEHIND HIM.
THEY ARE RACING FOR THE FREE PASS POSITION HERE SHOULD A
CAUTION COME OUT.>>LOOKS LIKE KENSETH HAS A
LOOSE RACE CAR ON THE EXIT IN FAMILIAR.
KENSETH HAD A START IN THE BACK OF THE FIELD AFTER AN ALTERATION
TO HIS CAR, POST INSPECTION ON THE GRID.
AND FROM 22nd AND MADE IT HALFWAY BACK IN THE PACK AND
QUICKLY. AND HIS PROGRESS HAS STALLED
SINCE THEN. SO HE HAS BOTH CONDITIONS GOING
THROUGH THE CORNERS AND THEY ARE FIRST CAR ONE LAP DOWN AND IT’S
NOT GOING TO WORK. NOW, TONY STEWART POSITIONED FOR
THE FREE PASS IF THEY CAUTION SHOULD COME OUT AND BACK NOW TO
BE RIGHT ON THE CUT LINE WHERE THE CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS ARE
CONCERNED.>>WE TALK A LOT AND SAID A LOT
ABOUT TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK. BUT IN IS SETTING UP AND
PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE RACES WE HAVE
WITNESSED THERE. JUST THE DRIVERS, AND HAVE WON
THERE AND CAPABLE OF WINNING AND THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS
GOING TO GET SOME THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND AND THEY GOING TO
UNDERSTAND THAT. WE ARE GOING TO BENEFIT FROM
WATCHING THE DRIVERS.>>THE DRAFTING AND PACK RACING
IN TALLADEGA, THE BIG WRECKS AND UNTIL THE RACE IS FINISHED,
DRIVERS NOT GOING TO KNOW. AND FOR IT TO BE CONFIRMED
WHETHER THEY ARE MADE THE TRANSFER THROUGH OR ARE OUT THEY
HAVE TO BE WILLING TO PUT IT TO THE LINE.
AND THE ONLY WAY TO COME OUT IS TO GO THERE AND WIN THE RACE.
>>AND THE COUNTER WITH DALE JR.’S CAR.
AND MONITORING THE TWO TEAM’S RADIO AND HEARING A TOUCH OF
FRUSTRATION.>>AND BEHIND JOE COST ME ABOUT
THREE LAPS. THAT IS WHY THAT IS SO CRITICAL,
JOEY. I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET.
>>AND I’M ATTEMPTING TO GIVE YOU ALL THE HELP I CAN GIVE YOU.
>>JOEY BEING THE SPOTTER ON THE ROOF.
>>HE IS PERFECT FOR BRAD. YOU CAN IMAGINE A BIT OF
FRUSTRATION. AND THE BOX IN PIT ROAD AND THE
SPOTS HE WORKED REALLY HARD TO AND EACH OF THE CYCLES OF PIT
STOPS. AND BRAD, ONE OF THE DRIVERS WHO
MUST POSITIVELY MUST HAVE IF NOT A WIN AND REALLY GREAT FINISH.
>>AND BRAD HAS BEEN PATIENT WITH THE CAR.
HE WASN’T GOING TO PUSH THE CAR UNTIL LATE AND A MINUTE AGO, HE
SAID, I’M GOING TO START DRIVING THE WHEELS OFF THE THING AND SEE
WHAT I GOT. AND HE JUST CALLED PAUL WOLF AND
SAID, I’M DRIVING IT HARD NOW. AND I’M ABOUT A SEVEN LOOSE.
SO WE NEED TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT.
ANDEN THE LAST STOP WHEN I DECIDE I WANT TO GO AFT, I CAN’T
BE THIS TREE. AND HE IS TESTING THE WATER TO
SEE WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN FOR THE LAST PIT STOP.
WE ACTUALLY HAVE TWO MORE STOPS BEFORE THE CHECKERED FLAG BUT
VERY, VERY LOOSE RIGHT NOW.>>DOC, THANKS.
KESELOWSKI BACK IN NINTH. AND WATCHING THE RACE AND JEFF
GORDON RUNS DOWN KURT BUSCH AND TRIES TO REGAIN SOME OF THE
GROUND ON PIT ROAD AND ENTANGLED IT WITH OTHER CARS EARLIER.
GOT A CAR NOW IN TURN FOUR, THAT IS JOSH WISE, SMOKING AND
CAUTION FLAG OUT. POSSIBLE LIQUID FROM THE 98.
>>TO THE GARAGE. ALL THE WAY TO THE GARAGE, BUD.
RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF YOU.>>YOU SEE THE ENGINE LETTING
GOIT GO RIGHT THERE. PARTS AND PIECES COMING OUT.
THAT IS A BIG ONE THERE.>>SECOND — THIRD ENGINE
FAILURE WE HAVE SEEN. MENARD, BOWYER AND NOW JOSH WISE
IN OUR BRIEF ON AIR INTRODUCTION TO THE RACE.
RUSTY WALLACE SAID THAT IT MOO BE SOMETHING WE WOULD SEE
TONIGHT.>>HIGH SPEEDS, HIGH RPMs
CREATES THAT.>>A LOT OF RACES TO GO.
THE LONGEST GREEN FLAG. 78 LAPS, 100 MILES HERE OF 67
LAPS. OVER 100 MILES OF GREEN FLAG
RACING. AND NOW, 112 LAPS TO GO.
AND A LITTLE OVER 150 MILES. THE PIT CREWS GETTING SET TO GO
TO WORK AGAIN.>>CARL EDWARDS, THIRD IN LINE,
AND OVERTAKEN BY KEVIN HARVICK, THE YELLOW, HE IS THE FIRST CAR
DOWN AND HE HAS TO GET THE FIRST PASS ON THE LEAD CAUTION.
A REPRIEVE FOR CARL.>>YEAH, AND TIME TO SEE IF THEY
CAN WORK ON THE FORD A BIT, SEE IF THEY CAN WORK THEIR WAY IN
THE TOP TEN BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER.
>>HERE COME THE PIT STOPS. JAMIE?
>>HARVICK SAYS HE IS A LITTLE TOO FREE STILL.
THE WEDGE DIDN’T HELP MUCH. THEY WILL PUT FOUR TIRES ON IT
AND FILL HIM WITH FUEL. VINCE?
>>THE SECOND POSITION SAID THE CAR HAD BEEN AS GOOD AS IT HAD
BEEN ALL NIGHT. THEY WILL MAKE A CHASSIS
ADJUSTMENT AND A FOUR FIRE CHANGE AND FUEL, DOC?
>>AND LARSON, AND LOOSE AND FOUR TIRES.
THE 41 CAR ALSO LOOSE ON EXIT. AND A HALF POUND OF AIR AND DOWN
IN THE RIGHT REAR WEDGE TO HELP THE 41 GET UP OFF THE CORNER.
>>AND HARVICK’S TEAM HANGS ON TO THE LEAD ON THIS SET OF
STOPS. AND BACK TO WORK ON THAT BROKEN
SHIFTER LEVER ON DALE EARNHARDT JR.’S 88 CAR.
CAUTION OUT HERE IN CHARLOTTE. BACK AFTER THIS FROM YOUR ABC
STATION.>>>CHASE DRIVER, WE HAVE SEEN
THEM LEAD AND STRUGGLE AND STEAL THE HEADLINES TONIGHT.
ENGINES GIVING UP AND CHASE DRIVERS GETTING FRISKY ON THE
RADIO. A LOT OF PRESSURE.
HELLO, I’M NICOLE WITH RUSTY AND BRAD.
WE START WITH A 5-HOUR ENERGY RAPID RECAP AND THE START OF THE
RACE, AND MATT KENSETH, UNAPPROVED ADJUSTMENT TO THE
CAR.>>I WOULD HAVE BEEN MAD IF I
WAS HIM. BUT HE HAS MOVED UP, 22nd BUT HE
IS A LAP DOWN. THE CAR IS NOT HANL THING TOO
GOOD.>>DALE EARNHARDT JR. WAS
RUNNING NINTH. BROKEN SHIFTER HANDLE.
>>WE SAW IT A FEW WEEKS GUY WITH ONE OF HIS TEAMMATES,
JIMMIE JOHNSON, AND THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIX IT THE BEST
THEY CAN. AND IT’S NOT COMFORTABLE.
AND HE IS IN A HECK OF A POSITION.
>>AND ONE LAP DOWN. AND KEVIN HARVICK, 116 LAPS
TONIGHT AND COUNTING. HE HAS LED, RUSTY, SO MANY LAPS
IN THE CHASE AND THIS SEASON. AND HARVICK HASN’T BEEN ABLE TO
CLOSE. HARVICK HASN’T WON SINCE
DARLINGTON.>>THAT IS A LONG TIME.
AND THAT IS ON MY MIND. HE HAS BEEN RUNNING SO WELL,
KEVIN HAS. HE USED TO BE THE CLOSER AND GET
IT DONE AND WIN. RIGHT NOW, HE IS GETTING IT DONE
EARLY AND CAN HE FINISH THE THING UP LATE?
WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS?>>RUSTY, THANKS.
PACE CARE OFF. AND HARVICK AND McMURRAY, 108
LAPS OF RACING LEFT TO GO. McMURRAY WITH A WIGGLE IN THE 1.
HERE IS KURT BUSCH TO HIS INSIDE.
KYLE BUSCH IS THROUGH TO SECOND. JIMMIE JOHNSON, MARTIN TRUEX, 48
AND 78. AND THAT IS FOR 11th AND 12th.
NOW JOHNSON ON JOEY LOGANO, TRY TO GET BACK IN THE TOP TEN.
SPEEDS ARE SO HIGH AT THIS RACETRACK AND THE AIR AS IT
MOVES IN THE BIG RACE CARS AND IT’S TRICKY AS WE ARE SIDE BY
SIDE.>>THE WAY THAT DRIVERS AND
TEAMS SET THE CARS UP NOW IS MAXIMIZING THAT EFFORT THEY HAD
TO GET ALL THE DOWN FORCE THEY CAN.
AND WHEN YOU ARE SIDE BY SIDE, YOU ARE NOTE GETTING THE AIR TO
THE PARTS TO DO THAT. AND IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO
DRIVER THE CARS AT THESE SPEEDS IN THOSE CONDITIONS.
YOU HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
>>THEY RELY HEAVILY ON THE SIDE FORCES AND WHEN YOU ARE SIDE BY
SIDE, THAT IS EFFECTIVE.>>McMURRAY, HOLDING OFF KURT
BUSCH FOR THIRD.>>KYLE LARSON IN THE 42 BEHIND
KURT BUSCH. HE RESTARTED THIRD THERE ON THE
INSIDE AND I THINK THAT THEY MIGHT LOOK AT SOMETHING LATER
ON. IN IF THEY ARE IN A SITUATION
AGAIN AND HE BEAT KYLE BUSCH OUT THERE.
I GUARANTEE HE WOULD LOVE TO START IT IN FOURTH.
HE STARTED TO MAKE IT UP. AND LATER, THEY MAY TELL HIM
TO’S UP A BIT.>>I THINK ONE OF THE PROBLEMS
ON THAT RESTART, McMURRAY IN FRONT OF HIM.
AND I THINK IT LOOKED LIKE HOE WAS GOING TO BEAT THE LEADER
FROM THE LINE AND I THINK THAT HURT HIM INSIDE A LOT.
>>AND RIGHT BEHIND LARSON, BRAD KESELOWSKI, GAINING NICE TRACK
POSITION ON THE PIT STOPS AND PICKED UP NOW TO SIXTH POSITION.
>>HAVEN’T MADE A LOT OF GAINS THERE.
AND AUSTIN DYLANON THERE. AND HE COMPLETED MORE LAPS THAN
ANYTHING ELSE THIS YEAR. AND HE HAS THAT EXPERIENCE.
SBP HE IS FINDING THE SPEED THEY NEED.
>>MARTIN TRUEX AND JOEY LOGANO. AND VICKERS JOINING IN IN THE
55.>>YOU GO BACK TO AUSTIN DILLON
AND AN IT WILL STEAM UNDER THE HOOD THIS WEEK.
AND THEY WERE REALLY WORKING HARD.
>>AND DANICA PATRICK IN THE 10, ALSO IN A FIGHT FOR POSITION.
RUNNING 14th AND ALLMENDINGER BEHIND HER IN 15th.
>>AND SHE WAS THE NEXT CAR TO GET LAPPED.
SHE FOUGHT OTHER CARS TO GET THE SPOT AND CARL EDWARDS, THE ONE
THAT GOT THE FREE PASS AND SHE DID A GREAT JOB, STAY ON THE
LEAD LAP. GOOD RUN.
>>A LOT OF LAPS IN THE RUN, TOP THREE, TOP FIVE SPEEDS ON THE RACETRACK.
THE CAR IS FAST.>>DANICA IN 14th POSITION.
SAW DALE EARNHARDT JR. IN THE COMMERCIAL BREAK AND IN THE PIT
STOP FOR JUNIOR AND WORKING ON THE SHIFTER LEVER AGAIN.
HE LAST A LAP IN THE SERIES OF REPAIRS AND A LAP DOWN IN 23rd
POSITION. HE HAD BEEN OVERTAKE BIN THE
LEADER IN THAT RUN. SO I GUESS WHAT I’M TRYING TO
SAY, HE IS NOT ON THE LEAD LAP. HE LOST IT ON THE CYCLE BEFORE
THE STOP. HE PITTED WITH THE LEADERS AND
TALKED MYSELF INTO THAT CORNER AND HOPEFULLY BACK OUT AND
JUNIOR IS RUNNING IN 23rd, A LAP DOWN.
NOBODY ABLE TO RUN WITH KEVIN HARVICK IN THE MIDDLE SECTION OF
THE RACE. HARVICK OUT FRONT.
>>>LURKY BREAK FOR KEVIN HARVICK.
THOUGHT HE HAD A TIRE RUB. AND THE BALANCE IS GOOD.
AND THAT IS THE CALL FOR THE>>THE BALANCE CHANGED BY JAMIE
McMURRAY ON THE LAST RUN. A LITTLE TOO LOOSE IN.
AND RIGHT SIDES ONLY. DOC?
>>AND A HALF POUND AIR IN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AND TWO TIRES
ONLY. AND TWO TIRES FOR KYLE BUSCH,
THE FIRST CAR OFF PIT ROAD.>>STRATEGY SESSION THERE.
>>AND A STRATEGY BY AUSTIN DILLON’S TEAM AND HE WILL BE THE
NEW LEADER. CAUTION FOR BRIAN VICKERS AS HE
RAN IN TROUBLE IN TURN TWO.>>THOORD TELL IF HE JUST GOT
LOOSE OR POSSIBLY A LEFT TIRE WENT DOWN.
AND IT TURNED AROUND QUICKLY. YOU HAVE TO THINK THAT SOMETHING
WENT WRONG THERE. AND MAYBE RUN OVER SOMETHING AND
CUT A LEFT TIRE.>>OUT OF THE WALL THOUGH.
JUST BARELY. NICE JOB.
>>KOCHBTS TO WORK ON THE BROKEN SHIFTER LEVER ON DALE
EARNHARDT’S CAR.>>ONE OF THE ISSUES, WHAT GEAR
HE HAS THE CAR IN IN PIT LANE AND HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO GET
IN THE PROPER GEAR TO MAKE SURE HE DOESN’T SPEED IN PIT LANE.
THEY PUT A VICE GRIP ON THE SHIFTER LEVER, HOPING IT HELPS
JUNIOR. AND THE CAR WAS TOO FREE ON THE
LAST RUN. STEVE LETARTE HAS HIS HANDS FULL
TO HAVE SPLG SOMETHING TO WORK WITH DOWN THE STRETCH.
>>YOU SAW THE BRIEF FIRE ON THE 33 TEAM, THE CAR DRIVEN AWAY.
AND THE SPILLED GASOLINE, IT LOOKED LIKE, QUICKLY
EXTINGUISHED. ALL APPEARS GOOD THERE.
THE ESPN RACE REPORTER IS JOEY LOGANO, ONE OF A HALF DOZEN
TEAMS WHO WENT FOR FOUR TIRES IN THE PIT STOP.
A LOT OF OTHERS WENT WITH TWO.>>IT’S DALE JARRETT, YOU HAVE A
MINUTE 20 TO TALK?>>SURE.
>>AND LOOKED LIKE THINGS WENT OKAY FOR YOU.
WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING HERE TONIGHT?
>>A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING. WE TALKED ABOUT ADVERSITY IN THE
BEGINNING OF THE RACE AND TRYING TO RECOVER FROM THAT.
AND THE PENNZOIL PLAN HERE, IT GOES FAST FOR ABOUT FIVE LAPS.
AND THAT LONG AND THEN STARTED LOSING TO CENTER AND LOSING THE
EXIT. AND THEN SEARCHING AROUND TRYING
TO FIND SOMETHING. AND THE BOYS ARE DOING A GOOD
JOB. WE ARE GETTING BETTER, MAKING
PROGRESS. AND HOPEFULLY GET IT RIGHT HERE.
>>YOU KEEP MAKING PROGRESS. WE WILL LOOK FORWARD TO TALKING
TO YOU LATER IN THE RACE. THANKS FOR TALKING, JOEY.
>>THANKS, GUYS.>>CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER, JOEY
LOGANO, 13th ON THE TRACK. THE WINNER LAST WEEK IN KANSAS
AND ALREADY THROUGH TO THE ELIMINATOR ROUND HERE.

HE HAS A WAYS JUST TO GET TO THE OTHERS WITH ONE LAP TOWN.
>>WHAT ARE FRESH TIRES WORTH? THE 3 CAR IS FINDING OUT.
>>THE 3 CAR, THEY HAVE DRIVEN INSIDE THE TOP TEN.
SHOULD HAVE STAYED ON THE SAME SEQUENCE.
>>THEY HAVE GOTTEN IN A REALLY, REALLY GOOD SPOT.
I BELIEVE THEY WILL LOSE MOST OF THAT, QUITE A BIT OF IT.
>>HE LOST 7th PLACE.>>WENT TO FIRST AND HE IS BACK
TO 6th.>>JUST SAW MARTIN TRUEX JR. GO
BY. HES HAD REBOUNDED EARLIER.
>>AND A GREAT REBOUND. AND HARVICK TRYING TO GO TO THE
OUTSIDE THERE. AND WHOA, BIG WIGGLE THERE IN
THE CORNER.>>FOR THE RACE LEAD.
GSHOK. AND A LITTLE FAR BACK.
AND HAMLIN MOVING UP AND GORDON SLIPPING BACK.
TROUBLE IN THE WALL. DANICA PATRICK, RYAN NEWMAN GOES

COME ON DOWN. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TAIL IS
USED UP AS IS THE ORANGE CONE. DOWN ON NEWMAN’S CAR.
FOURTH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP STARTING TONIGHT.
DANICA WAS 11th, NEWMAN, 13th.>>PIT THIS ONE.
>>GOT A LITTLE HELP FROM THIS. NO CONTACT FROM JOEY LOGANO.
YOU CAN SEE THE BRAKE ON HIS CAR.
HARD ON THE BRAKES BUT STILL GOT INTO HIM.
>>I THINK LOGANO THOUGHT WITH HER IN THE CORNER — THAT IS THE
WAY YOU ATTACK THE RACETRACK. HE THOUGHT THE HOLE WAS GOING TO
BE OPENED TLUP. BE ONCE HE REALIZED SHE DOES
COMING OUT, HARD ON THE BRAKES BUT NOT IN TIME.
>>NEWMAN LOCKING IT DOWN AND SPINNING TO AVOID PILING IN.
>>AND BARELY MISSING IT. AND KASEY KAHNE BARELY MISSING
ON THE INSIDE.>>SO NEWMAN AVOIDING
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE THERE. MIGHT BE A CHAMPIONSHIP-SAVING
MOMENT. HOW ABOUT JIMMIE JOHNSON?

AND KEVIN HARVICK, AND KEEP AN EYE ON KYLE LARSON, AND HE HAS
THE OUTSIDE LANE FOR A RESTART. WE TALKED ABOUT THAT BEFORE.
>>HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE ON THE RESTARTS.
SEE IF HE CAN GET GOING THIS TIME.
>>HERE HE COMES THE, SECOND PLACE, KYLE LARSON WITH A RUN.
>>HE JUST NEEDS THAT OUTSIDE LANE IS WHAT HE NEEDS ON THE
RESTART.>>LARSON TO SECOND.
SOMEBODY ELSE MAKING GOOD USE OF THE OUTSIDE LANE.
BRAD KESELOWSKI.>>WITH THAT, A LITTLE STRATEGY
MOVE THEY MIGHT HAVE PLAYED AND MAYBE SETSING THEM UP FOR TWO
TIRES. HOW ABOUT IT, DOC?
>>I ASKED PAUL AND HE SAID, WAS IT A STRATEGY MOVE?
AND HE SAID, IT DEPENDS ON HOW GOOD THE CARS ARE.
AND HE SAID, GUYS, WATCH THIS, I’M MOVING.
I’M GOING TO GO AS CLOSE AS I CAN TO THE FRONT AND GET THERE.
AND BE SURE TO UNLOAD THE 22 CAR.
BUT I’M ON THE WAY.>>AND IF HE CAN DRIVE TO THE
FRONT, HE WILL GET –>>HE CAN SET THE STRATEGY THEN.
>>YEAH.>>NO NEED TO ALERT THE 22.
HE’S BUYING. AND KESELOWSKI, MOVING HERE

MATT KENSETH AND DANICA PATRICK IN FOR A FEW ROUNDS OF REPAIRS.
DANICA, STILL IN FOR REPAIRS. FREE PASS WENT TO GREG BIFFLE.
>>A FEW OF THOSE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A STRATEGY PLAY.
AND OTHERS MIGHT HAVE BEEN TELL TO GET THE RACE CAR WHERE THEY
CAN DRIVE IT.>>AND THE 18 CAR A GOOD.
>>Jon: OF GETTING THE CAR ADJUSTED.
AND THEY DID IT THURSDAY NIGHT. DIDN’T HAVE THE FASTEST LAP OF
THE THREE SESSIONS. BUT THE TRACK POSITIONS, AND
THEY ARE DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB TONIGHT.
>>AND TALKED ABOUT THE PRESSURE OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND.
WHERE EVERYTHING IS RESET AND YOU HAVE THREE RACES TO GET
THROUGH AND SO ON. A LOT OF THE PRESSURE BEGINNING
TO BUILD ON PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RUNNING AS WELL AS PERHAPS THEY
LIKE.>>WHAT IS GOING ON, MAN?
>>IT’S DRIVING LIKE [ BLEEP ] AND IT’S ABOUT TO CRASH.
>>WHY ARE YOU [ BLEEP ] CRASHING?
I’M TRYING TO HELP YOU.>>THAT IS WHAT IS GOING ON.
I’M DRIVING MY [ BLEEP ] AND I’M ALMOST CRASHING.
>>WHY ARE YOU ALMOST CRASHING, JIMMIE?
>>I’M GOING TO THE WALL AND ALMOST CRASH.
I AM TRYING TO GO ON THE BOTTOM AND I CAN’T GO ANY WHERE RIGHT
NOW?>>DO YOU WANT ME TO TIGHTEN YOU
UP THEN?>>A LITTLE TESTY.
THE PRESSURE WILL DO IT TO YOU.>>NOT REALLY SOMETHING WE ARE
TESTING. BUT USUAL CALM THROUGH ALL
SITUATIONS. BUT AS WE POINTED OUT, A LONG
TIME AGO THE CHASE FORMAT IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.
THEY ARE GOING SEE THE DIFFERENT PRESSURE AND HOW YOU REACT TO
IT. AND HAVING ISSUES A COUPLE WEEKS
IN A ROW FOR THE 48 CAR. YEAH, THEY HAD ISSUES.
HE GOT INTO THE CALL YET. .
THEY HAVE GOING TO STRUGGLE.>>THEY ARE A THIRD TO FIFTH
PLACE CAR, NOT A DOMINANT CAR. THEY ARE WORKING TO GETTING BACK
TO BEING A DOMINANT CAR. AND MARTIN TRUEX HERE.
THAT IS FOR TENTH PLACE.>>I TELL YOU, WHEN YOU HAVE
SUCCESS THEY HAVE HAD, YOU HAVE EXPECTATIONS.
IT’S HARD TO BE IN THIS POSITION.
AND I WOULDN’T SAY DESPERATE YET.
THEY ARE ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN AND ONE MORE RACE AFTER THIS
ONE –>>UNLESS THERE IS A BIG TURN
AROUND TONIGHT. THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN GET AROUND
IS IF THEY WIN TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.
TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND.>>AND THE CAR, JIMMIE IS
DRIVING THE WHEELS OFF IT. YOU CAN BE THE BEST DRIVER IN
THE WORLD, AND HE HAS PROVEN HE IS THE BEST IN THIS SERIES A LOT
OF TIMES. BUT IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE CAR
UNDER YOU TO DO WHAT YOU WANT, IT BECOMES VERY, VERY
FRUSTRATING.>>AND OF COURSE, GETTING HIT IN
THE LEFT REAR AND TURNED AND CRASHED IN KANSAS LAST WEEK.
SOMETHING THAT WAS OUT OF JIMMIE’S CONTROL BUT IT DID
LEAVE HIM IN THE SITUATION AFTER LEADING TO REALLY RUN WELL HERE
IN CHARLOTTE WITH TALLADEGA LOOMING NEXT WEEK.
HE RAN SOLIDLY. FIFTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE, THIRD,
DOVER. HE WAS RUNNING WELL IN KANSAS
AND HE WAS HIT AND TURNED LAST WEEK.
AND JIMMIE IS CAPABLE OF WINNING TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.
>>YEAH, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. AND THE OTHER DRIVERS MIGHT SEEN
SOMETHING IN JIMMIE JOHNSON THEY DON’T WANT TO SEE THERE.
AND THE DEAL AT KANSAS LAST WEEK, THEY HAD A QUALIFYING
THERE THAT WASN’T GOOD BECAUSE THEY WERE IN A PACK OF CARS AND
GOT THEM IN A POSITION.>>LOOK WHO IS SHOWING UP AT
ABOUT THE RIGHT TIME. THE 5 CAR IS ON THE MOVE TO THE
FRONT. YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE CARS THAT
GOT IN. NOW WE HAVE A BATTLE FOR THE
LEAD.>>AND KYLE LARSON, GETTING A
RUN IN THE LAST COUPLE LAPS AND UNDER KYLE BUSCH FOR THE RACE
LEAP.>>I DON’T WANT TO TALK TAKE ON
40 OF THE MILES.>>AND MAKES HIS WAY TO THE
FRONT. SLOWLY BUT SURELY.
>>AND THAT IS ONE THING HE HAS FIGURED OUT.
AND HE UNDERSTANDS, HE HAD BEEN IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES.
THESE ARE 400 AND 500-MILE RACES.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
HE IS SHOWING UP WHEN IT REALLY COUNTS NOW.
>>KYLE LARSON BECOMES THE TENTH DIFFERENT DRIVER TO LEAD THIS
RACE AS HE LOVES THE RAY HIS TEAM IS WORKING TOGETHER.
WE ARE IN THE GREAT SPOT AND WE ARE GOING TO GET BETTER.
>>YOU SAW THE RIGHT REAR MISSING FROM HIS CAR AND
BRINGING OUT CAUTION FLAG SEVEN. AND PIT ROAD OPEN FOR A LEAD LAP
CAR LEER. NOT EVERYBODY COMES IN,
KESELOWSKI, STAYS OUT. JAMIE?
>>WELL, KEVIN HARVICK ONLY HAD RIGHT SIDE TIRES LAST WEEK.
AND HE GOT BETTER, NO CHANGES HERE.
AND THEY WILL FILL THEM UP. DOC?
>>AND HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE PASS AND GO WITH FOUR TIRES.
AND HAD A DEBATE. DECIDED TO GO WITH FOUR TIRES
AND KYLE BUSCH, SAID THE CAR FIRED UP, AND DECIDED TO GO
AHEAD AND CHANGE FOUR TIRES, GOT TO BE TWO TURN.
DOWN AND AWAY.>>BIG STRATEGY MOVE THERE.
KESELOWSKI DOESN’T PIT. AND RESET AND IT RESTART IT FOR
YOU. COME BACK TO THE BANK OF AMERICA
500.>>>LEAVING PIT ROAD HERE IN
CHARLOTTE. AND BARK OF AMERICA 500.
AND BRAD KESELOWSKI, THE RACE LEADER BY NOT PITTING.
DOC?>>LET’S TALK TO PAUL WOLF ABOUT
WHY THEY MADE THE CALL. YELLOW IS OUT AND YOU OF THE TO
LEAVE HIM ON THE RACETRACK, WHY?>>THAT IS AN AGGRESSIVE PLAY.
THAT IS WHAT WE TALK ABOUT TRYING TO WIN THE RACE.
WE TALKED ABOUT IT AND THIS PLAYED OUT HOW WE THOUGHT.
AND WE STUCK TO OUR PLAN.>>ARE YOU SURPRISED HE GOT SO
AGGRESSIVE ON THE RESTART IN HE SAID HE IS GOING TO MAKE A MOVE
AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO WITH THE CAR, THAT EARLY INSTEAD OF
WAITING LATER.>>WE GOT DOWN TO ONE MORE STOP
LEFT. AND WE ARE IN THAT POSITION NOW,
AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN KEEP IT UP FRONT.
>>AND A STRATEGY MOVE MAY BE RISKY.
BUT IT MIGHT WORK OUT.>>AND THANKS.
AND THE ONE TO GO SIGNAL HERE AND RIGHT SIDE TIRES FOR DENNY
HAMLIN, JIMMIE JOHNSON AND MATT KENSETH, SECOND, THIRD AND
FOURTH AND KYLE BUSCH. RESTARTING FIFTH.
>>TOMORROW NIGHT ON ABC, ONE OF TELEVISION’S MOST COMPELLING
DRAMAS. “RESURRECTION HERE ON ABC.
WHEN WE RESTART, EVERYBODY NEEDING ONE MORE PIT STOP TO
MAKE IT TO THE FINISH. BRAD KESELOWSKI NOT PITTING
UNDER CAUTION. THE NEXT THREE CARS, HAMLIN,
JOHNSON AND KENSETH, RIGHTS ONLY AND BACK TO KYLE BUSCH AND KEVIN
HARVICK, THE FIRST WITH FOUR TIRES OFF THE PIT STOPS.
KYLE LARSON ALL THE WAY BACK TO EIGHTH IN THE SHUFFLE OF PIT
STOPS AND PIT STRATEGY AND SO ON IN THE 42 CAR.
MAKE IT SEVENTH PLACE FOR KYLE. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE
STRATEGY CALL THERE BY PAUL WOLFE?
>>I MEAN, IT’S DIFFICULT. LIKE YOU SAID, IT’S AGGRESSIVE.
I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S GOING TO WORK.
I DON’T THINK IT WILL. THEY HAD DRIVEN UP PRETTY CLOSE.
WE WILL SEE. THEY FEEL LIKE THEY NEEDED TO DO
IT.>>ONLY ONE WAY TO KNOW HOW IT
TURNS OUT.>>THEY HAVE BEEN RIGHT A LOT OF
TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS.>>TROUBLE, CONTACT THERE.
KENSETH AND KESELOWSKI. DENNY HAMLIN, THROUGH TO THE
RACE LEAD. THREE WIDE.
HARVICK TO THE MIDDLE OF KENSETH>>HE’S GOT DAMAGE ON THE RIGHT
SIDE OF THAT CAR.>>WORKED ALL RACE LONG TO GET
BACK IN THE LEAD GROUP. AND STARTING UP FRONT IN THE
COUPLE ROWS AND NOW CONTACT, NOW HE IS LIEDING WAY BACK.
>>YOU SEE THE 88 CAR, HE IS RACING WITH THE 55 TO STAY ONE
LAP DOWN. THAT DIDN’T LOOK LIKE A BIG PASS
AT THE MOMENT TO SEE ON THE BIG BOARD AND THE DAMAGE HE HAS GOT,
SOMETHING COMES OFF THAT AND BREAKS ANOTHER ISSUE FOR HIM.
THE 88 NEEDS TO BE IN THAT SPOT TO TRY TO GET BACK IN THE LEAD
LAP.>>I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED
BETWEEN KESELOWSKI AND KENSETH HERE.
>>KENSETH GETS A REALLY BIG RUN ON THE START HERE.
AND GOES ON THE OUTSIDE AND 2 GOES TO BLACK BLOC HIM.
THAT IS WHAT IT IS. THE 2 HAS DAMAGE ON THE RIGHT
REAR ALSO.>>KENSETH FROM 4th TO 18th AT
THE MOMENT. KESELOWSKI, HANGING ON TO
SECOND.>>YOU SEE, THE BACK CORNER, THE
REAR BUMPER. OFF THAT 2 CAR.
AND YOU TALKED ABOUT EARLIER, THE SIDE FORCE IS WHAT THEY RELY
ON.>>THAT IS CRITICAL.
THE RIGHT CORNER.>>PAUL WOLFE LOOKING INTENTLY
ON THE TV PICTURES TO UNDERSTAND THE STATUS OF HIS 2 MACHINE.
>>HE IS RUNNING HERE. AND GET IT TO YELLOW AND WE WILL
BE JUST FINE.>>BRAD JUST THINKING ABOUT ONE
THING. GETTING BACK BY DENNY HAMLIN TO
WIN THE RACE. WASN’T IT JUST A LITTLE WHILE
AGO WE PLAYED THE RADIO OF JIMMIE JOHNSON BEING SUPER
FRUSTRATED? AND NOW, THE TRACK POSITION AND
HERE IS JIMMIE RUNNING THIRD AND TRYING TO HOLD OFF THE GUYS
RUNNING BEHIND HIM.>>I SEE SOMETHING RIGHT THERE.
WHEN WE HAVEN’T SEEN ANYTHING. AND HE WAS ABLE TO CARRY A LOT
OF SPEED TO THE CORNER. AND HE WAS PLAYING WITH THE
THROTTLE AND THOUGHT BEING ABLE TO UTILIZE WHAT YOU ARE TRYING
TO GET AND THAT IS A LOT OF SPEED TO THE EXIT OR THE CORNER.
>>IF I UNDERSTAND THAT RADIO SNIPPET, CHAD KNAUS SAID,
REMEMBER, IF WE WIN, WE TRANSFER.
>>I’M SURE HE DIDN’T HAVE TO TELL HIM.
BUT A GOOD REMINDER.>>CIRCUMSTANCES CAN CHANGE
QUICKLY.>>IF THIS RUNS OUT FOR A BIT,
THE 42 WILL BE BACK IN COMMAND OF THE RACE HERE, BEFORE TOO
LONG.>>THE OUTSIDE HAS BEEN HIS
FAVORITE LANE. RIGHT NOW, JIMMIE JOHNSON HAS
THAT OCCUPIED. HE HAS TO PASS HIM LOW.
>>IT WILL TAKE HIM A LAP OR A COUPLE TO MAKE ALL OF THAT WORK.
YOU WILL KEEP WORKING ON HIM.>>42 RACING 48.
UPDATE ON THE LADDER FROM DAVE.>>THAT WILL BE THE 48.
AND REMEMBER WITH THE DRIVER, SOMETIMES YOU GIVE THEM
SOMETHING 20 TO USE ON OFFENSE THEY GO WIT.
AND SOMETIMES IT’S THE TRACK POSITION AND THE RIGHT SIDE
TIRES AND IN MAY, IT WAS THE BEST RACE CARS AND JIMMIE LED
AND FINISHED OFF WITH THE WIN. AND REMEMBER WHAT HE SAID
AFTERWARDS. NOW THEY KNOW WE’RE AWAKE.
DON’T THINK THE 48 HAS GONE TO SLEEP HERE EITHER.
>>AND KYLE LARSON DIDN’T HESITATE ON THE BOTTOM.
HE IS GOING TO TRY TO GET THEM BOTH.
>>THAT IS A GREAT MOVE BY LARSON, AND SEEING WHAT IS
HAPPENING AND HE IS ABLE TO GET BOTH THE SPOTS.
VERY, VERY SMART. NOT ONLY IS HE TALENTED AND
SMART. THAT IS GOING TO TAKE HIM A LONG
WAY.>>LARSON TO SECOND.
.8 SECONDS BEHIND DENNY HAMLIN, WHO FINDS HIMSELF LEADING THE
RACE AFTER NOT BEING MUCH OF A FACTOR FOR THE FIRST 300 MILES.
A LITTLE DISPLEASURE EXPRESSED? YOU WILL SEE IT.
>>>INSIDE THE FINAL 50 LAPS TONIGHT HERE AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR
SPEEDWAY. AND REALLY, THE ACTION AT THE
FRONT. DENNY HAMLIN, THE RACE LEADER,
TAKING IT AFTER BRAD KESELOWSKI AND MATT KENSETH TANGLED ON THE
LAST RESTART. AND KYLE LARSON AND BOTH LARSON
AND KEVIN HARVICK, RACING FOR SECOND.
ARE CATCHING HAMLIN FOR THE RACE LEAD.
THAT BIG RUN, HE GETS OFF THE HIGH SIDE.
NOW TO BLOCK.>>HE’S BEEN RUNNING IT SOME
DOWN THERE.>>SEE YELLOW PAINT ON THE SIDE
OF THAT 42. SCRAPED THE OUTSIDE WALL A LAP
AGO.>>HE PICKED UP THE THROTTLE.
>>AND BACK TO THIRD PLACE. LARSON TRAILING, HARVICK, AND
TRYING TO REEL IN, AND VINCE?>>WHAT A NIGHT IT’S BEEN FOR
HAMLIN AND COMPANY. THEY FOUGHT THROUGHOUT THE
COURSE OF THE NIGHT AND WORKED ON IT FOR THE PRESSURE AND
CHASSIS ADJUSTMENTS AND THEY HAD AN ISSUE IN THE PIT LANE AND
THEY SUFFER ADJURE. BUT THEY IS CONTINUED TO MARCH
TO THE FRONT. AND DARIAN GRUBB HAS MADE THE
CALLS TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE. AND RIGHT SIDE TIRES EACH ON THE
LAST TWO STOPS. THEY ARE MANEUVERED THE WAY TO
THE FRONT AND THE CLEAN AIR IS A A LOT OF PRESSURE FROM KEVIN
HARVICK FOR THE RACE LEAD. HARVICK HAS LED NEARLY TWICE AS
MANY LAPS AS ANYONE ELSE AND SHUFFLED HIM DOWN IN THE ORDER
AND ANOTHER ON THE RALLY, JEFF GORDON AND SECOND MOST LAPS LED
TONIGHT. AND LOST A HANDLE ON HIS CAR A
WHILE AND HERE HE IS, TRYING TO GET THIRD ON THE LEFT.
>>AND TURNING REALLY FAST LAPS. MAKING HIS WAY TOWARDS THE
LEADERS AND HARVICK DECIDED TO GO ON THE OUTSIDE AND MAKE IT
WORK.>>BACK TO THE LEAD.
HARVICK. WILL IT BE HARVICK THAT WINS AND
GETTING TO TALLADEGA AND ADVANCES ON?
CAN IT BE ONE OF THE NONCHASERS, KYLE LARSON, BUSCH OR JAMIE
McMURRAY IN THE GROUP? OR CAN DENNY HAMLIN RALLY?
OR JEFF GORDON OR JIMMIE JOHNSON?
AND WE WILL SEE ANY YELLOW FLAG AND BRING OUT THE PIT STRATEGY
THAT WILL CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THIS ONE.
THE LEADERS HAVE OVERTAKEN DANICA PATRICK AND PUT HER A LAP
DOWN. AND NOW DALE EARNHARDT JR. IS NO
LONGER IN THE FREE PASS POSITION AND GORDON AND LARSON HAVING A
GOOD TUSSLE FOR THIRD. UPDATE ON LARSON FROM DOC.
>>KYLE JUST RADIOED IN AND SAID THE CAR IS GETTING TIGHT.
I THINK I MESSED THE BODY UP ONCE I BOUNCED IT OFF THE WALL.
WAY TIGHT NOW. CAN’T GET THE CAR TO TURN.
>>ALL RIGHT, DOC.>>MAKES IT REALLY TOUGH TO RUN
THE HIGH LINE WHEN YOUR CAR GETS TO THE SPEED.
GET THE BIG RUN ON THE EXIT OR THE CORNER AND WHEN IT WON’T DO
THAT, YOU ARE HAVING TO STAY OUT OF THE THROTTLE TOO LONG.
>>SO GORDON TO THIRD. 1.8 SECONDS BEHIND KEVIN
HARVICK, THE RACE LEADER AND LARSON BACK TO FOURTH.
BRAD KESELOWSKI, BAILING OUT AFTER NOT PITTING UNDER THE LAST
CAUTION AND HAVING CONTACT WITH KENSETH AND HERE HE IS ON PIT
ROAD. COULD BE HIS FINAL STOP.
37 LAPS TO GO IN THE RACE. DOC?
>>ALL RIGHT, THEY ARE GOING TO BE A FOUR-TIRE CALL.
THEY ARE GOING TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT REAR
BUMPER AND MAKE A CHASSIS ADJUSTMENT AND RIGHT SIDE, LEFT
SIDE TIRE GOING ON. AND WE ARE HOPING TO GO ON AND
WORK ON THE CAR AND MAKE A STOP ON THE YELLOW.
FINAL STOP EXPECTED FOR THE 2 LAST TWO STOPS.
AND THE SAME SCHEDULE WITH HIM, AND BASICALLY ABLE EVERYBODY.
VISIT THE PIT LANE AS WE STAY UNDER THE GREEN.
KEVIN HARVICK LEADS AFTER THIS MESSAGE FROM YOUR ABC STATION.
>>>A CHASE TO THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP DOWN TO THE LAST 31 LAPS AND
A QUICK REMINDER ABOUT NEXT SUNDAY’S ELIMINATION RACE.
AND WHAT A PLACE TO HAVE IT. THE WORLD’S FASTEST SPEEDWAY.
TALLADEGA, THE GEICO 500, ESPN, 1:00 EASTERN TIME.
AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN? HOW WILL IT TURN OUT?
WHO MAKES IT AND WHO GETS ELIMINATED IN THE CHASE FOR THE
NASCAR SPRINT CUP. THAT IS ON TOP OF THE
SPECTACULAR RACING. AND THE AERIAL COVERAGE,
FRIENDED BY GOODYEAR. AND EXPIRE WHAT IS ROLLS INTO
YOURS. GOODYEAR, THE OFFICIAL TIRE OF
NASCAR. MATT KENSETH IN FOR THE FINAL
STOP, JAMIE.>>THE LAST CAR ON THE LEAD LAP.
AS HARD AS WE HIT THE WALL, THE CAR FEELS GOOD.
FOUR TIRES HERE AND FILL THEM UP WITH SUNOCO FUEL.
>>YOU STARTED TO SAY ABOUT TALLADEGA WHY WAS WAS
TRANSITIONING?>>YEAH, SORRY ABOUT THAT.
DON’T MEAN TO — ELIMINATION, JUST TAKING ON A NEW MEANING
THIS YEAR WITH THE CHASE FORMAT AT THAT RACETRACK.
GOING TO BE QUITE ENTERTAINING AND EXCITING.
>>YOU SAW IN NASCAR NONSTOP, JEFF GORDON UP TO SECOND PLACE
BEHIND KEVIN HARVICK. THERE IS THE GAP, 1.9 SECONDS, 4 TO 24.
>>HE IS MAKING UP A LOT OF TRACK.
>>HAMLIN ON THIRD AND JIMMIE JOHNSON FOURTH.
KYLE BUSCH IS FIFTH. AND LARSON IS BACK TO SIXTH.
DALE EARNHARDT JR. CONTINUES TO BE THE FREE PASS POSITION CAR.
THE FIRST CAR A LAP DOWN AFTER PASSING DANICA PATRICK A WHILE
BACK.>>THIS BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT.
YOU HAVE DRIVERS ON DIFFERENT SITUATIONS HERE, AND TIRES THAT
ARE OLDER, SLOWS DOWN SOME AND OTHERS THAT HAVE GONE ON AND
PITTED. FRESHER TIRERS AND A LOT OF
THINGS HAPPENING ON THE RACETRACK.
YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE DOING HERE AND WE COME UP ON
THE GREEN FLAG PIT STOP, DON’T MAKE A MISTAKE THAT YOU COST YOU
CLEARLY.>>AND JAMIE McMURRAY TRYING TO
PASS FOR SIXTH PLACE. AND McMURRAY, A FACTOR IN THE
FRONT AND SHUFFLED BACK BY STRATEGY AND THE HANDLING NOT
WHAT IT COULD BE AS IT WAS EARLIER IN THE NIGHT.
>>THEY REALLY START OUT FAST AND HAVE GOOD PERFORMANCE.
THAT WILL COME WITH TIME.>>THE NUMBERS ON THE LATE
CAUTION IN CHARLOTTE ARE NOT AS FA DRA MATTIC AS OTHER PLACES.
WE DON’T SEE A SHORT RUN HERE VERY OFTEN.
>>IF WE HAVE A LATE CAUTION, THE RACE CARS WILL BE FRANTIC.
>>DENNY HAMLIN GIVES UP THIRD FOR HIS PIT STOP.
WORKS AROUND ARIC ALMIROLA. VINCE?
>>DENNY’S ONE COMMENT ABOUT THE RACE CAR AND THE HANDLING, IT’S
BEEN TIGHT. IT WILL BE A FOUR TIF CHANGE.
AND RIGHT SIDES ONLY. AND NO CHASSIS ADJUSTMENTS.
DENNY HAMLIN, A SOLID STOP. JAMIE.
>>? KEVIN HARVICK A FOUR-TIRE STOP
HERE. THE BALANCE IS GOOD.
NO CHANGES. THAT WILL SAVE A LITTLE TIME.
THEY WILL GIVE ENOUGH FUEL, 12.6.
DAVE?>>KASEY KAHNE IS IN FROM 8th
POSITION. HE SAID IT WAS SIDEWAYS ON THE
RUN. THEY NEED TO MAKE CHANGES FOR
HIM TO PERHAPS WIN THE RACE. VINCE?
>>THE 1 OF JAMIE McMURRAY HAS JUST SWUNG LOOSE.
A LITTLE TOO LOOSE FOR HIS LIKING.
AND THEY PUT THE TIRES ON IT AND SUNOCO FUEL TO THE END FOR
McMURRAY.>>GORDON, JOHNSON, KYLE BUSCH,
KYLE LARSON, ALL IN AFTER SEVEN CAR VICK.
>>JIMMIE JOHNSON IS IN NOW. AND FOUR-TIRE CHANGE AND AN AIR
PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT. HE WAS RUNNING FOURTH WHEN HE
CAME TO PIT ROAD.>>KYLE BUSCH, AND FOUR TIRES
FOR KYLE. AND THE CAR, VERY, VERY TIGHT
CENTER. AND AIR PRESSURE, AND FOUR
TIRES. GOT TO GET THE CAR TO TURN TO BE
ABLE TO COMPETE.>>KURT BUSCH LED FOR A LAP.
AND NOW ME IS IN. DOC?
>>KURT SIDE I’M TIGHT GOING IN THE CENTER AND LOOSE OFF.
FOUR TIRES AND ONE ROUND OF WEDGE IN THE LEFT REAR.
WATCH FOR IT TO GO IN THE LEFT REAR.
THERE IT IS NOW. AND FOUR TIRES, AIR PRESSURE
CHANGE AND TRY TO GET HIM TO WHERE HE CAN DRIVER THE CAR OFF.
AND HE IS AWAY, 12.8. GREG BIFFLE, VERY GOOD TESTED.
AND NOT A BAD ONE TONIGHT FOR THE BIFF.
FOUR TIRES, 13.5.>>A LITTLE TIGHT FOR AUSTIN
DILLON, WHO IS RUNNING 11th ON THIS RUN.
AND LOOKS LIKE A LATE CHANGE FOR THE 3.
>>A LOT OF CREW MEMBERS’ HANDS UP IN THE AIR WHEN THE 3 CAR
PULLED AWAY. NOW, ON THE TRACK, JEFF GORDON
LOST A LOT OF GROUND TO KEVIN HARVICK IN THE EXCHANGE OF PIT
STOPS. GORDON’S TRAB WAS A GOOD ONE.
HE WAS TRAPPED IN A PILE OF TRAFFIC.
MORE ON THAT AFTER RYAN NEWMAN.>>AND HE WILL GET ADJUSTMENT
FOR A RACE DHAR WAS ON THE RUN. AND A TWO-TIRE CHANGE.
RIGHT SIDE ONLY FOR NEWMAN.>>TRYING TO STEAL TRACK
POSITION LATE. AND JUSTIN ALLGAIER, NOT MADE A
STOP. EDWARDS SLOWING.
AND ALLGAIER STAYING OUT FOR ANOTHER LAP.
HERE IS CARL, JAMIE.>>HE HAS BEEN TIGHT ALL NIGHT
LONG. THEY HAVE ADJUSTED ON THE CAR
MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR IN THIS SECTION.
ONE CAN OF SUNOCO FUEL, ENOUGH TO GET HIM IN THE LAST 18 LAPS
HERE.>>AFTER ALLGAIER PITS, THE
CYCLE WILL BE COMPLETE. THE LEAD FROM HARVICK OVER JEFF
GORDON WAS 2.3 SECONDS BEFORE THE STOPS.
IT’S ABOUT DOUBLE THAT NOW. ACTUALLY, IT’S ALMOST TRIPLE
THAT. SIX SECONDS AND SOME.
BACK TO JEFF GORDON. AND AGAIN, THE PIT STOP TIME ON
GORDON, 12 SOMETHING, WAS A SOLID STOP.
AND JEFF CAME OUT AND RUN IN A CALL OF TRAFFIC.
HE WAS THREE OUT. AND CARS GOING BACK AND FORTH.
AND IT REALLY COST THE 24 A LOT OF GROUND.
>>SURE DID. THAT WAS UNFORTUNATE FOR HIM.
AND THE TIMING OF THE WHOLE THING.
JUST A MENTION ONE THING, STEVE LETARTE HAS LEFT DALE JR. OUT
HERE. HE IS ON THE LEAD LAP RIGHT NOW,
HOPING FOR A CAUTION THEY MIGHT COULD BENEFIT FROM.
>>HE IS WAVING HE IS COMING IN HERE, THE NEXT LAP.
>>COULD BE HE IS WAVING CARS BY OTHERS BUT COULD BE WORTH THE
GAMBLE IN THE SITUATION THEY ARE IN HERE.
>>EARNHARDT JR. IN TENTH PLACE. LAST PITTED AT LAP 268.
WE ARE AT 319 NOW. CLEARLY HANGING ON THERE.
>>YES, TOUGH SPOT TO BE IN WHEN THE OTHER CARS HAVE FRESH TIRES
ON THEM. DIDN’T GETS A MUCH SPEED BUT
CAREFUL NOT TO GET RUN OVER IN THIS SITUATION.
YOU WANT A CAUTION. YOU JUST DON’T WANT TO BE IT.
THE PIT STOPS CYCLED OUT AND KESELOWSKI, BACK UP TO FIFTH
POSITION.>>HE IS LOSING TIME.
HE HAS BEEN UP THERE.>>THAT WASN’T SURPRISING.
>>NO.>>MERE IS FIFTH PLACE.
McMURRAY BY KESELOWSKI.>>MEADS UP A LOT OF TIME BY
HAVING THE FRESH TIRES AND NOW PAYING THE PRICE FOR THAT IS THE
OTHER CARS HE HAD GOTTEN IN FRONT OF BY THAT EXCHANGE.
AND STARTING TO REALLY GO BY.>>KYLE LARSON, KURT BUSCH,
TENTH AND 11th PLACES HERE. AND LARSON, UP FOR THE LEAD NOT
THAT LONG AGO.>>I THINK HE WOUNDED THAT CAR
WHEN HE HIT THE WALL. AND HAVEN’T BEEN THE SAME SINCE.
>>DIDN’T SEEM HE HIT IT THAT HARD.
BUT IT DOESN’T TAKE A LOT. ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A DHAR IS
TO THE TIGHT SIDE.>>HE HOPED FOR A CAUTION AND
DALE JR. IS ON PIT ROAD WITH 11 LAPS TO GO, VINCE?
>>AND IF JUNIOR IS GOING TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE
CHASE, HE HAS TO WIN NEXT WEEK AT TALLADEGA, AND THE SHIFT
THEIR BROKE ON HIM TONIGHT. THEY HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH A
LOOSE RACE CAR. FUEL IT UP AND GO FOR JUNIOR IN
THE FINAL LAPS. TEN TO GO.
>>KYLE LARSON AND KASEY KAHNE. BACK FOR 11th AND 12th.
GIVE OR TAKE, HOW THIS POSITIONAL RACE TURNS OUT AND
WHERE MATT KENSETH TURN OUT. THEY ARE TIED FOR THE CUP PLACE
AND KENSETH WITH A TIEBREAKER. AND AN EXPECTED RACE RALLY FOR
KASEY CLAIN. AND NOT WHAT THEY NEED TO
CONTEND FOR THE WIN.>>AND THE LAST 40 OR 50 LAPS,
HE MADE HIS WAY INSIDE THE TOP TEN.
LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GOING TO MAKE A CHARGE AND RIGHT NOW, IT’S NOT
GOING TO FALL LIKE IT WAS.>>YEP.
>>WE TALKED ABOUT A NUMBER OF DRIVERS THAT ARE NOT IN THE
CHASE. ONE THAT STARTED IN THE CHASE,
INSIDE, DIDN’T MAKE IT THROUGH THE FIRST CUP.
AND ALLMENDING HER A GREAT NIGHT.
IN 8th SPOT NOW.>>TROUBLE, TURN TWO, BRIAN
VICKERS, PLUME OF SMOKE AND THE CAUTION IS OUT WITH SEVEN LAPS
TO GO.>>UH-OH.
>>I HEAR THE JEOPARDY MUSIC PLAYS ON THE STRATEGY CALL HERE.
>>UH-HUH. LOOKED LIKES THE 15 CAR WAS HIS
TEAMMATE.>>THAT THE FOURTH ENGINE
FAILURE WE HAVE SEEN HERE TONIGHT.
>>BRIAN VICKERS TO THE GARAGE, CAUTION OUT.
AND MATT KENSETH GETS A FREE PASS.
19th ON THE LEAD LAP. DALE JR. WILL BE THE NEXT CAR
NOT ON THE LEAD LAP. AND LET’S TALK ABOUT IT HERE,
ANDY. KEVIN HARVICK AT 311, JEFF
GORDON AT 312. WE ARE 16 AND 17 LAPS — 17 AND
18 LAPS OF RACING LATER –>>KEVIN HARVICK IS GOING TO KEY
WHAT HAPPENS HERE. HE PITS — A LOT OF GUYS ARE
GOING TO STAY OUT. IF HE STAYS OUT, I BET A LOT OF
GUYS STAY.>>NO IT’S A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD.
HERE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL NOT BE THAT GUY.
>>IT’S ALMOST A DISADVANTAGE. IF I’M CHILDERS RIGHT NOW, I
WILL TAKE MY CHANCE OF STAYING OUT.
AND MIGHT KEEP A LOT OF GUYS OUT THERE WITH HIM.
>>I THINK YOU HAVE SOME BACK IN THE PACK IF YOU DO THAT, A LOT
OF OTHERS CAME IN AND GIVE THAT IT SHOT AND TRY TO DID THAT.
>>AND OVER TO THE LEAD LAP CARS LEER.
>>I HEAR SOME OF THEM SAY COME ON.
>>I THOUGHT –>>I THINK I HAVE TO STAY OUT.
>>STAY OUT, STAY OUT, STAY OUT.>>JIMMIE JOHNSON IN FROM FOURTH
PLACE. NOT A TON OF TAKERS, DAVE?
>>YOU HEARD THE CALL, TWO RTS TIRES FOR JIMMIE JOHNSON.
CHAD SAID, IF WE DON’T COME N THEY WILL EAT OUR LUNCH.
SO RIGHT SIDES FOR THE 48 FROM FOURTH PLACE.
>>HOW IS IT GOING PLAY OUT? LESS THAN FIVE LAPS TO THE
FINISH. NASCAR NONSTOP TONIGHT PRESENTED
BY BANK OF AMERICA.>>DOWN TO A FEW LAPS IN THE
BANK OF AMERICA 500. AND THE TOP NINE IN THE RUNNING
ORDER NOW HAVE STAYED OUT. JIMMIE JOHNSON PITTED FOURTH.
HE IS TENTH AND WE ARE GOING TO GO GREEN WITH A COUPLE LAPS
LEFT. JAMIE?
>>WELL, RODNEY CHILDERS IS ACTING LIKE A VETERAN IN THE
CHASE. BUT CONTRARY TO THAT, HE HAS
NEVER BEEN IN THE CHASE WITH A DRIVER BEFORE AND HE HAS NEVER
WON IN THE CHASE, OBVIOUSLY. WHEN THE LAST CAUTION CAME OUT,
HE SAID, WE ARE PITTING FOR RIGHT SIDE TIRES AND RIGHT AT
THE LAST SECOND, IT WAS A GROUP EFFORT TO SAY, STAY, STAY, STAY,
DON’T COME OUT. NO ONE WAS COMING EXCEPT FOR THE
48.>>I THINK IT WAS THE RIGHT
DECISION. WE’LL SEE.
>>THEY ARE DOUBLED UP. TWO LAPS OF RACING.
SCHEDULED.>>YEAH, AT LEAST.
>>DON’T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE 1 CAR RIGHT THERE.
WE HAVE SEEN HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL IN SOME OF THE RESTARTS.
THE GUYS ALL HAVE TIRES THAT HAVE LAPS ON THEM.
HE GOT NOTHING TO LOSE.>>HE CAN BE FAIRLY DANGEROUS UP
THERE.>>CERTAINLY.
19 CARS ON THE LEAD LAP. HERE ARE A LOOK AT THE FRONT
STARTERS. AND AGAIN, TWO LAPS LEFT IN THE
SCHEDULE DISTANCE OF THE RACE, WHEN WE GET THE CLEAN BLACK.
HARVICK AND GORDON ON THE FRONT ROW.
THE TWO HAVE LED THE MOST LAPS TONIGHT.
HOW DOES IT TURN OUT?>>HERE VAK IS CLEAR COMES TO
THE WHITE FLAG. THINK THAI ARE THREE AND FOUR
BEHIND HIM. WE ARE IN THE LAST LAP.
LARSON, RIDING AROUND TRYING TO GAIN ALL THE SPOTS HE CAN.
DO THEY ALL MAKE IT BACK TO THE FINAL TWO CORNERS?
CHECKERED FLAG AND A PASS THROUGH TO ROUND THREE OF THE
CHASE. KEVIN HARVICK WINS IT AT
CHARLOTTE. HOW MANY TIMES IN THE LAST
COUPLE MONTHS HAS KEVIN HARVICK LED THE MOST LAPS IN THE RACE
AND HAD SOMETHING GO WRONG IN THE END.
CAUTION FLAG, THE STRATEGY CALL, ALL OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED FOR
SOMETHING GO WRONG. THEY GOT THE STRATEGY CALL
RIGHT. GOT THE LAST RESTART RIGHT AND
HE’S GOT THE TROPHY AND THE PASS THROUGH TO THE THIRD ROUND IN
THE CHAMPIONSHIP.>>AND A GREAT TIME TO PUT IT AL
TOGETHER IN THE END OF THE TRACE.
THEY PERFORMED TOO WELL AND SUCH KESELOWSKI AND DENNY HAMLIN HAVE
TANGLE. AND KESELOWSKI AND TONY STEWART.
AND KEVIN HARVICK CELEBRATES WITH THE CROWD.
>>DENNY HAM SLIN FINISHED 9th. AND KESELOWSKI, 16th.
AND ON THE LAP — THERE WAS THAT.
THEN KESELOWSKI AND KENSETH WITH KESELOWSKI RUNNING INTO TONY
STEWART. WELL, NOW.
THE
SPARKS HAVE FLOWN AND THE FENDERS ARE BENT AFTER THE
CHECKERED FLAG.>>WE HAVE TO SEE WHAT BROUGHT
THAT ON. UNHAPPY DRIVERS FOR SURE.
>>WHOA, MORE. THAT IS MATT KENSETH.
>>HEY! HEY!
HEY!>>DON’T HIT ME!
>>HEY, HEY.>>TURN IT LOOSE!
TURN IT LOOSE! TURN IT LOOSE!
>>LISTEN UP.>>LET HIM GO, PAUL.
>>LET GO. LET HIM GO.
>>THE RACE IS OVER.>>HOW ABOUT THE GARAGE, IS AN
INTERESTING PLACE TO BE RIGHT NOW, HU, DAVE?
>>WHAT IS THE MESSAGE YOU TRIED TO GET ACROSS TO BRAD THERE?
>>BESIDES RACING, HE KNEW I WAS OUT THERE.
AND REALLY, THE SAFETY. HE WAS DOING SOMETHING WITH
DENNY. AND I DON’T KNOW IF HE WAS MAD
AT ME. AND I HAD THE SEAT BELT OFF.
AND THE ACCIDENTS WE HAD AROUND HERE, JUST, THE RACE IS OVER,
TRY TO COME BACK TO PIT ROAD. IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT AS
A MAN, TRY DO THAT. AND COME DOWN PIT ROAD WITH
OTHER CARS AND PEOPLE STANDING AROUND WITH SEAT BELTS OFF.
IT’S UNEXCUSABLE. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT.
HE IS A CHAMPION. IT’S JUST — I DON’T KNOW.
I DON’T KNOW.>>MATT, YOU WERE INVOLVED WITH
THE RESTART. WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE?
>>UM, THE RESTART, I JUST ROAD ALONGSIDE HIM AND THE DOG LEG
AND HE RAN ME OUT OF ROOM. AND I SHOULDN’T HAVE WENT THERE.
AND THEY KNOW YOU ARE THERE AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU ROOM AND HE
JUST — HE DID IT ON PURPOSE. HE DIDN’T WANT TO GET PAST.
>>THANKS. FULL OF EMOTIONS DOWN THERE.
AND KEVIN HAS DRIVEN TO VICTORY LANE.
AND THAT IS PRESENTED BY 5-HOUR ENERGY.
>>KEVIN HARVICK, YOU GOT THE PULSE, YOU HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE
FASTEST CARS ALL WEEK. IT’S BEEN SIX MONTHS.
WHAT IS THE JOURNEY LIKE TO GET HERE ONCE AGAIN?
>>WELL, IT’S BEEN GREAT TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.
EVERYBODY ON OUR TEAM HAS JUST CONTINUED TO BUILD BETTER RACE
CARS. WE KNOW WE HAD THE CARS TO RUN
UP FRONT AND LEAD LAPS AND DO THE THINGS WE NEED TO DO.
AND THINGS HADN’T GONE RIGHT. WE MADE MISTAKES.
AND JUST WANT TO THANK BUDWEISER, JIMMY JOHN’S, SPRINT,
ALL THE FANS AND EVERYTHING THEY DO.
AND OUTBACK CHEVROLET, AND EVERYTHING ON THE CAR.
THIS IS THE NIGHT THAT WE NEEDED TO WIN.
I DON’T WANT TO GO TO TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.
>>THAT IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE.
IT’S A WIN AND YOU ARE GOING ON TO THE NEXT ROUND WITH TALLADEGA
ROOMING, THE BIGGEST WILD CARD. HOW MUCH RELIEF IS THAT FOR YOU?
>>WE CAME HERE AND TESTED THINKING THAT WAS GOING TO BE
THE HARDEST ROUND TO GET TO BECAUSE OF TALLADEGA.
THERE IS SO MUCH THAT YOU CAN’T CONTROL THERE.
WE WANTED TO TRY TO CONTROL THE THINGS WE WANTED TO CONTROL.
AND FELT LIKE KANSAS AND HERE, PLAYING TO OUR STRENGTHS AND
JUST SEE E WHERE IT FELL AND ONCE WE GET TO THE NEXT ROUND.
JUST REALLY PROUD OF EVERYBODY AND REALLY PROUD OF ALL MY GUYS
ON THE TEAM. JUST CAN’T THANK EVERYBODY
ENOUGH.>>IT’S BEEN A LONG JOURNEY.
AND KEVIN HARVICK SAID, WHEN WE PUT ONE OF THESE TOGETHER, LOOK
OUT, HE’S MOVING ON.>>LOVE TO SEE THE HAPPINESS AND
THE EMOTION AND THE THRILL OF VICTORY FROM KEVIN HARVICK
TONIGHT. LED 162 OF 334 LAPS.
WORLD CLASS BURN OUT IN CELEBRATING HIS WIN AND OUR
GOODYEAR SUPERIOR PERFORMER TONIGHT.
HARVICK. AND STILL PLENTY MORE TO TALK
ABOUT POST RACE TONIGHT IN CHARLOTTE.
WE’LL BE BACK.>>BANK OF AMERICA 500 IS OVER
AT CHARLOTTE. AND THE CONVERSATION ABOUT IT, I
TRUST S GOING TO CONTINUE FOR SOME TIME TO COME.
KEVIN HARVICK CELEBRATING IN VICTORY LANE WITH THE FIRST WIN
SINCE DARLINGTON IN APRIL, AND THE ELIMINATOR ROUND, WITHOUT
HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT TALLADEGA. NOW, ALL THE POST RACE
FIREWORKS. THE RESTART THAT CAME WITH TWO
STARTS TO GO, AND WATCH THE 2 AND 11 FOR THREE-QUARTERS OF A
LAP.>>AND A TOP STOP.
YOU SEE THE 11 IS A LITTLE LOOSE THERE.
AND LITTLE CONTACT. NOT MUCH.
A LITTLE BUMP.>>IT’S BEEN FOUR WIDE FOR A
MINUTE.>>AND NOW THE COOL DOWN.
>>I CAN SEE THAT, I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER STUFF.
I DON’T SEE ANYTHING THAT DENNY HAMLIN DID.
>>AND NOW THE CARS STACK UP AT THE ENTRANCE OF PIT ROAD.
THAT IS THE HIT THAT KENSETH WAS TALKING ABOUT AND KESELOWSKI IN
THE BACK OF TONY STEWART AND THEN THIS.
FROM TONY STEWART’S BUMPER CAMERA.
>>THAT IS WHERE THE FRIEND END DAMAGE CAME FROM.
>>SO — ON THE TRACK AND ON PIT LANE PORTION OF THE PROGRAM.
AND THEN, OF COURSE, WE SAW THE FIREWORKS BACK IN THE GARAGE
WITH FIRST DENNY HAMLIN AFTER KESELOWSKI AND THEN MATT KENSETH
MAKING THE STRONG APPEARANCE BETWEEN THE HAULER AND THAT
ESCALATING VERY QUICKLY. MORE POST RACE REACTIONS AND
INTERVIEWS. HERE IS DOC.
>>WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR. DALE, A LOT OF CHALLENGES AND
ISSUES TONIGHT. HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE SHIFTER.
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THIS NIGHT?>>NOT GOOD.
WE HAD A MAD VIBRATION. AND WE ENDED UP JUST BREAKING
THE — THE VIBRATION BROKE THE SHIFTER IN HALF.
AND IT JUST — IT DOESN’T A GOOD NIGHT.
THE CAR WASN’T HANDLING WELL. AND THE VIBRATION WAS GIVING US
PROBLEMS. AND WE HAD IT IN PRACTICE.
AND I DON’T KNOW IF –>>DALE EARNHARDT JR. —
>>AND WANTED TONIGHT. AND A VERY STRONG EFFORT.
SECOND PLACE FINISH. AND I KNOW YOU GUYS WERE
DIGGING, MADE A LOT OF THE CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF
THE NIGHT. HOW DO YOU SEE IT?
I’M PROUD OF THE FINISH AND THE EFFORT.
YOU KNOW, KEVIN GOT OUT THERE AFTER THE LAST GREEN FLAG
STOPPED. LOOKED LIKE WE WERE GOING TO BE
SECOND. I DIDN’T WANT TO SEE ANOTHER
RESTART. WHEN WE START ON THE INSIDE, WE
SEEM TO LOSE POSITIONS AND THERE IN THE EN, WE ARE JUST TRYING TO
MAKE IT BETTER. AND WE GOT OFF A BIT, AND LOST
TRACK POSITION AND I HAD TERRIBLE RESTARTS AND THERE AT
THE END, FOUR TIRES AND RESTARTS AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET UP.
HOW ABOUT THAT DRAMA? I’M TELLING YOU THIS NEW FORMAT
HAS CREATED DRAMA.>>BE GLAD YOU’RE NOT IN IT.
>>I’M GLAD I’M IN THE IN IT AND IT DOESN’T MAKE IT COMFORTABLE
GOING TO NEXT WEEK BUT BETTER THAN IT COULD BE.
>>NICE JOB. JEFF GORDON, SECOND PLACE.
>>AND JEFF GAINING TEN POINTS ON THE BUBBLE TONIGHT.
WE WILL SEE THE STANDINGS IN A FEW MINUTES.
AND EVERYBODY IS TALK ABOUT TALLADEGA, AND WHY NOT?
ELIMINATION RACE WLENCHTS SEE DRIVING LIKE WE HAVE NEVER SEEN
BEFORE.>>YOU THINK THERE ARE EMOTIONS
TONIGHT. WAIT UNTIL AFTER THAT ONE.
>>JOIN US AT THE TRACK, TALLADEGA, AND THE CHAMPIONSHIP
RACE AT HOMESTEAD. GOING TO BE A LOT OF FUN.
NASCAR.COM/TICKETS OR THE NUMBER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN.
MORE POST RACE STILL TO COME.>>>POST RACE FIREWORKS HERE IN
CHARLOTTE. WE LOOK AT TALLADEGA, JOEY
LOGANO AND KEVIN HARVICK THROUGH.
AND NOW LOOK AT THE GAP, REMEMBER THERE ARE MANY MORE
POINTS THAN THE 26 AT STAKE. NOW, KYLE BUSCH IS NOT SAFE
GOING TO TALLADEGA AND THE NARROW IS VERY, VERY SLIM.
AND DALE JR. AND JIMMIE JOHNSON, 26 POINTS BEHIND.
IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE BUT A LOT OF WORK.
>>A LOT OF WORK TO DO. AND YOU SAW THE FOUR OUTSIDE
THEY ALL HAVE VICTORIES AT TALLADEGA.
>>AND ONE OF THEM IS GOING TO POSSIBLY GET THAT WIN AND VERY
GOOD TEAMS ARE GOING TO BE DONE AFTER TALLADEGA.
>>ALL RIGHT, WELL, KEVIN HARVICK AND COMPANY DO THAT
DANCE IN VICTORY LANE. LET’S GO TO DOC.
>>AND BRAD KESELOWSKI, WHAT HAPPENED TO DENNY HAMLIN?
>>WELL, FIRST, I THINK THE FORD WAS GOOD TODAY.
WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE A FOURTH OR FIT PLACE RUN AND
DIDN’T CATCH A BREAK. I’M PROUD OF ANYONE ON TEAM
PENSKE AND THROUGH THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS, THE 20 CAR WAS IN
BACK OF ME AND I WASN’T MAD AT HIM.
BUT WHEN THE LAST YELL CAME OUT, HE GOT THE WAY AROUND AND HE
CAME BACK AND SWUNG AT MY CAR AND TORE THE FRONT OF THE CAR
OFF. AND WE STARTED THE FIFTH WITH NO
FRONT, WE FELL BACK TO 16 SBTH RUINED OUR DAY AND GAVE US A BIG
CHASE HURT, WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE AND FOR SOME REASON AFTER THE
RACE, THE 11 STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AND TRIED TO PICK A FIGHT.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT WAS ABOUT.
AND I FIGURED IF WE ARE GOING TO PLAY CAR WARS, I WILL DISH IT
OUT TOO. I DON’T KNOW.
THEY WANT TO FIGHT. I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS UP WITH
THAT.>>WHAT ABOUT THE CONTACT WITH
TONY?>>HE IS UPSET AND HE HAS EVERY
TRITE BE. HIS CAR WAS TORE UP.
THERE WAS A LOT OF OTHER STUFF GOING ON.
WHEN HE SEES THE SITUATION, HE WILL UNDERSTAND.
>>LET GEESE TO DAVE BURNS.>>DENNY HAMLIN, TALK ABOUT THE
AGGRESSION ON THE TRACK AND THE AGGRESSION AFTER WARD.
>>WE, WE WERE ON THE GREEN AND WHITE CHECKERED AND BRAD WAS
BEHIND US. WE KNEW HE WAS GOING BE
AGGRESSIVE AND HE RAN INTO IT US AND KNOCKED OFF OFF THE
RACETRACK AND I SHOWED MY DISPLEASURE ON THE COOL DOWN LAP
AND I BRAKE CHECKED HIM TO GIVE THEM THE WHOLE STORY AND HE
TRIED TO SPIN US OUT AND WE GOT TO PIT LANE AND HE PLOWED INTO
THE 14 AND THE 20. AND 20, I RAN INTO HIM AND RAN
INTO US AGAIN COMING OFF PIT ROAD.
AND THEN HE WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE AND DID BURN OUTS AND HE
KNOCKED SOMEBODY’S TRANSMISSION CLEAR THROUGH.
OUT OF CONTROL. WE ARE JUST — YOU KNOW, WE GOT
TO THINK ABOUT US HERE GOING FORWARD.
THAT IS AN IMPORTANT THING. BUT NASCAR SAID NO TOLERANCE FOR
STUFF LIKE THAT, AND YOU GOT BE A LITTLE MORE MATURE.
I’M PROUD OF THE FEDEX GROUND TEAM.
WE HAD A TOUGH CAR AND JUST GOT KNOCKED AROUND ON THE RESTART.
IT’S UNFORTUNATE BUT STILL A DECENT DAY FOR US.
>>WHAT NASCAR IS TELLING YOU, THIS CAN’T CARRY OVER?
IT HAS TO STOP HERE?>>NASCAR HASN’T TOLD ME
ANYTHING. THEY TOLD ME — DON’T GO AFTER
HIM. YOU GOT TOO MUCH TO LOSE.
FY WOULD HAVE WRECKED, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN BIG TROUBLE.
HE COST US SIX SPOTS. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
>>ALL RIGHT, WELL, IN THE AFTER MATH OF ALL OF THAT, I GET YOUR
REACTIONS FIRST TO THE POST RACE EVENTS AND INCIDENTS AND
FIREWORKS.>>WELL, YOU ALWAYS HATE TO SEE
THAT CARS GET TORN UP AFTER THE FACT.
BUT DRIVERS ARE GOING TO DO THAT, AND I’M NOT SURPRISED
ABOUT THAT. THERE IS HIGH PRESSURE IN THE
SITUATION. FIRST TIME WE HAVE HAD AN
ELIMINATION TYPE OF CHASE SET UP AND THAT HAS RAMPED UP THE
PRESSURE. THE THINGS THEY WILL DO.
AND THE MOTIONS. AND MY GOODNESS, AS IF WE NEEDED
ANYTHING ELSE. WE GOT IT NOW.
>>WELL, YOU CAN SEE THE DESPERATION ON THE RACETRACK AND
IT CARRIED OFF TOO. THEY ARE GOOD RACE TEAMS, THE
BACKS AGAINST THE WALL AND THEY FELT THEY WERE USED UP.
AND I CAN SEE HOW EMOTIONS RUN HIGH.
>>AND THE SUMMARY ON THE WINNER’S NIGHT, KEVIN HARVICK
WENT THROUGH AND GOT ONE TONIGHT.
AND YOU BETTER WATCH OUT FOR HIM WHEN IT’S TIME TO HAND OUT THE
BIG TROPHY IN SOUTH FLORIDA IN ANOTHER FIVE WEEKS.
DOWN TO THE PIT STUDIO, NICOLE?>>WE ARE SHAKING OUR HEADS
AFTER THAT, AND TALLADEGA, I CANNOT WAIT.
>>KY NOT WAIT. THE 2 CAR OF BRAD KESELOWSKI,
AND THE 8 OUT OF DALE JR., THEY CERTIFIED IN TROUBLE.
THEY REALLY HAD.>>IF I WOULD HAVE SAID TO YOU
AFTER FOUR RACES THAT THOSE CARS WERE GOING TO BE AT 12th, 11th
AND 10th IN POINTS, YOU WOULD HAVE SAID — YOU BUMPED YOUR
HEAD. NOW, IT’S IT’S FIVE —
>>THEY ARE IN TROUBLE. 29, 48 AND 88 ARE ALL IN
TROUBLE.>>I NEED THE ENTIRE FIRST HALF
OF THE FIELD TO WRECK.>>THIS IS GOING TO BE CRAZY.
>>THE CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT HAS CREATED SO MUCH DRAMA.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE DRIVERS UNDER SO MUCH PRESSURE.
I LIKE IT. AND I’M HAPPY FOR KEVIN HARVICK.
HE FINALLY CLOSED THE DEAL. HE LOOK GREAT.
>>AND LAP ONE TO THE END OF NEXT WEEK, WATCH.
THE ONLY DRIVER WHO DOESN’T HAVE TO WORRY, JOEY LOGANO, WHO GOT
THE WIN LAST WEEK AND KEVIN LAR VICK, NOW SAFE FROM ELIMINATION
AFTER HIS WIN TONIGHT IN CHARLOTTE.
MOST POST RACE FROM CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY AFTER THIS BREAK
AND A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LOCAL ABC STATIONS.
>>.>>BACK LIVE IN CHARLOTTE AFTER
THE BANK OF AMERICA 500. IN ALL OF THE EXCITEMENT IN THE
LAST COUPLE LAPS AND THE CHAOS, A COUPLE SURPRISING THINGS
COMING UP.>>AND JAMIE McMURRAY, AND JOEY
LOGANO, WHERE HE DID COME FROM.>>AND CARL EDWARDS, AND A TOP
TEN FINISH.>>AND KASEY KAHNE IN THE TOP
TEN ALSO.>>AND ALLMENDINGER, SOLID ALL
NIGHT. AND COMES IN 12th AND AUSTIN
DILLON, REBOUNDS FROM A PIT CALL THEY WISH THEY HAD OVER.
AND FINISHES 13th.>>AND KESELOWSKI, 16th AND
SPLUS A GREAT FINISH NIGHT. AND NONE OF THEM DID.
JAMIE McMURRAY HAD A GREAT NIGHT.
HERE IS VINCE.>>ONE OF THE TEAMS THAT HAS
BEEN EXTREMELY STRONG IN THE COURSE OF THE CHASE IS THE 1
TEAM OF JAMIE McMURRAY, AND THIRD PLACE.
YOU ARE NOT RUNNING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP BUT YOU GUYS HAVE
RUN LIKE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS TONIGHT.
AND WHAT IS KEY TO THE RESURGENCE?
>>WELL, WE HAD BEEN GOOD ALL YEAR.
AND OUR McDONALD’S MONOPOLY CHEVY WAS REALLY GOOD AND KYLE
WAS CATCHING ME IN THIRD AND A LOT OF CREDIT TO THE GUYS IN THE
SHOP, THE ENGINEERS DEPARTMENT. WE STRUGGLED IN PRACTICE AND
KEITH AND JOSH DID A GREAT JOB AND ADJUSTING ON IT ALL NIGHT
LONG. A REALLY GOOD NIGHT FOR THE
WHOLE GROUP.>>WELL DONE.
JAMIE McMURRAY, THIRD PLACE.>>AND FROM HERE NEGOTIATION TO
TALLADEGA NEXT WEEK.>>CAN’T WAIT.
>>THEY MIGHT NEED TO BRING BOXING GLOVES FOR THAT RACE.
>>THE ELIMINATION RATION NEXT SUNDAY, THE GEICO 500 FROM
TALLADEGA, 1:00 EASTERN TIME A WEEK FROM TOMORROW AND THERE IS
A LOT TO TALK ABOUT AND THINK ABOUT BEFORE THEN.
LOOK FORWARD TO IT. AND SPECTACULAR FINISH HERE IN
CHARLOTTE. HARVICK RACES HIS WAY THROUGH TO
THE NEXT ROUND OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
MM>>I NEED ALL THE HELPKY GET.
>>AND WE HAVE TO DIG DEEP AND WE WILL BE FINE.
>>THAT DOESN’T WORK REAL GOOD.>>WHY DO I SUCK SO BAD?
>>KEVIN HARVICK, CONTINUES TO LEAD.
>>TROUBLE, RYAN NEWMAN GOES FAR SPIN.
CHECKERED FLAG AND A PASS THROUGH.
AND WINS IT IN CHARLOTTE!

  1. Starting to notice more and more teams are experimenting with the right side skirt. First saw it with Keselowski at Chicago and saw several during Charlotte including Harvick. Haven't heard much talk about it outside of the initial twitter controversy at Chicago.

  2. I enjoyed this race (and ignored the extra-curricular stuff at the end).  Great race by both the 4 and 24 teams.  I'm not a Jr. fan but I couldn't help but wonder how in the heck they lose a gearshift after the same thing with the 48.

  3. It is supremely sad when Kyle Busch is the most behaved driver on the Joe Gibbs Racing stable during an entire race weekend, you know that?

Think about it. Denny Hamlin goes wah-wah-wah on Brad Keselowksi just because Denny got a bad restart & washed up the track. So how does he respond? After the race he tries to brake check Keselowski!? Uh, why? Then he for the most part decides to follow Keselowski into the garage & goes wah-wah-wah again, throwing his towel, making up the excuse that he put Matt Kenseth in the wall & he bumped him in the corner in the last restart. Hey genius! Every single replay showed you moved up, no bump included! This is your dumbest complaint yet & you are 1 dumb step away from getting on my bad side forever! More than likely it's already too late for pretty much all of the other fans. You are supposed to be the shining example of Joe Gibbs Racing, but this stunt shows all of the racing fans that there is no shining start at JGR. So apparently you won't go after Joey Logano after he nearly broke your back, but you just have to go after Keselowski after YOU messed the first turn on the last restart!… Pathetic!… This garbage you did has even gotten me to the point that I rather see Kyle Busch advance to the next round than you Hamlin (Along with Edwards, Kenseth, & Johnson)… That's right I said I rather see Kyle Busch advance to the next round than Denny Hamlin. That's how stupid this stunt, ridiculous, & pathetic this excuse by Hamlin actually is!…

Also Matt Kenseth just flat out showed that he is a flat out coward! First he tries to go high on Keselowski while Keselowski is on the high line putting himself in the wall & damaging the right rear of Brad's car. Then apparently Matt ran into Brad under the last caution while getting the lucky dog, which I didn't notice but will not be surprised if that happened. Then after the race blocked Brad to the point he & Brad nearly collided with Tony Stewart, making Stewart back in Keselowski & almost made him back into Danica (Weird). Then Kenseth the jerk decided to, instead of confront Brad & simply ask him a few questions like a man, play the cowardly jerk card & jump Keselowski from behind in the middle of 2 haulers & brought his pit crew with him so Brad couldn't retaliate. Pathetic! Then the idiot goes on some pathetic rant saying that Brad has to represent the series like the champion he is… Yeah Mr. 2003 Cup champion who just tried to attack another guy from behind! Because your actions is how you represent the Cup series, teaching & telling everyone that your way to confront someone after a race is to attack him/her from behind. Did the fight in the 1979 Daytona 500 start with 1 driver jumping another from behind? NO! They confronted each other like men!… Matt Kenseth just proved himself a flat out childish coward!…

This is severely disappointing for all of the fans of Joe Gibbs Racing. Denny Hamlin showed us his dumb-ass side & Matt Kenseth flat out showed us all the coward he really is. It is supremely sad when Kyle Busch is the most behaved driver on the Joe Gibbs Racing stable during an entire race weekend, & that's my final answer!

  4. I hate who is saying that matt did that "because of  the pressure of the new format" ! Matt didn't do that because of the restart accident , he did that due to the careless driving that BK shown. Please stop to use his reaction to promote this new format, please.

  5. One of the best races of season. All NASCAR´s stuffs in one race. Thanks Brad, Logano, Patrick, Kenseth n Hanlim to bring this show to us. Oh…btw…who won?
    LOL,LOL

  6. Dear NASCAR, Thanks for the 3 dozen ads you placed here. I hope the few pennies you make out of my annoyance really adds to the hundreds of millions you pull in annually. But it's like NASCAR always says, "It's all about the fans!" By the way I think your being greedy when someone posts a race for the true fans who may not be able to catch the race live, and you pull it down. Sleep well on those extra pennies while you hoard your hundreds of millions…

  7. this is the best move nascar ever made and last week was just so important due to the fact the fans like i living no way near charlotte missed 30 laps thanks to abc now thanks to nascar i can watch those laps here thank you nascar for listenin to yuor fans

  8. Brad Keselowski is one of the biggest dicks in NASCAR. Some other dicks in NASCAR include Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Wrecky Smashouse or whatever his name is and of course Kyle Busch and Danishit Patrick. Hamlin and Kenseth know what they're doing when it comes to confrontations.

  9. since my internet doesnt like me when was the second pit stops? BK and Stuart got fined and none of the JGR guys did oh ya BK doenst belong here he wont make it next race with people gained up on him already!!!! and i wont get to watch it cux i dont get ESPN would rather watch it on FOX

  10. Maturity seems to take longer with this kid (BK) than most. His first lesson ought to be to own up to what he does. His delusional recollections, as described in his post-race-fight interview, are embarrassing.

  11. I remember when the walls here used to be white.  I think they painted them yellow for the All Star Race one year and decided to keep it because it looks really good.

  12. Hi I am new to Nascar and from Europe so I can't rly ask anyone about it, so I hope someone will help me out here..

1: They put out safety car for a "Competition caution", what competition is there in annihilating the gap anyone built to anyone?- and why build a gap when you know this will happen ruining your extra tire wear and fuel use?

2: I heard the commentator say that they reset the points during the season and introduced "The Chase" what does that mean and whats the point in winning races early in a season when they get removed later?

3: what is the "advance bubble" and how does that work?

  13. Dear People Are Taatsalon Why added a this Aldnia Is added a to eat and drink Is added a fun this Aldnia mortal fleeting not intercostal we humans created us to worship the Lord God, my Lord, my God and Alahecm and Allagha everything Vkro before Tlaqoh Vkro before it's too late / Islam is the religion of truth Mohammed's religion the religion of truth West always distorts the image of Islam and Muslims, why because they know that the religion of truth and fighting against /////// I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger, and I bear witness that Jesus the son of Mary, Abdullah and His Messenger, and I bear witness that paradise right and that right shot

  14. Wow NASCAR is insane!!!
some people are complaining F1 is boring, but this? taking a constant left turn and not doing anything else…. wow i dont get it. its nice tho u can work on some stuff and get back to it every now and then and dont miss anything

  15. I hate how in this race Austin Dillion had a solid run into the top 10 because he had a fast good handling car, and then his crew chief who ever it was in 14 decides to put him off sink with everyone with stupid pit strategy. You'd think to just be happy and keep the car handing good and let your driver do his job and race to the lead

  16. I just wish that caution never came out. Jimmie would've finished with a top 5 easy. Chad made that dumb call coming down pit road.

  17. I felt bad for Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart after this race. Brad Keselowski is a blockhead!

  18. Post-race penalties: Brad Keselowski was fined $50,000 & placed on probation for the next 4 races
Tony Stewart was fined $25,000 & placed on probation for the next 4 races
